Recent news stories have suggested that employers may be reluctant to hire people without a Facebook profile on the grounds that Facebook usage has become so common that not having an account is seen as somehow abnormal. This concern appears to have been compounded by a lurid report in a German… Continue

"I am getting old. I am irritated by Facebook picture posts of slogans, pithy sayings, homilies, truisms and inspirational bullshit that show up in ever inceasing volume. Does anyone have a frickin' thought of their own? Does anyone have a sense of humor or wit? I pulled a gun on myself and forced myself to write this."

Stolen from an actual conversation on Facebook between "J" an Intelligent Design proponent who thinkings evolutionary theory is not to be believed and some fellow believers in woo....
J: Why is it that young-earth creationist papers (published in creationist journals and peer-reviewed by other creationists) generally quite explicitly start off by assuming what they're trying to prove?
K: Confirmation bias.
J: Many of the… Continue

A little background: brother is a reverend, rapper for Jesus ( i swear) mother Facebook page might as well include the entire new testament.
My whole family us aware I am an atheist. Anytime we speak religion, I'm usually met with condescension. Pretty funny most of the time. Today though, just got under my skin.

Google Plus (Google+) stirred up a controversy by deleting, wholesale, accounts created under pseudonyms instead of under real names. Google+ acknowledged their mistakes and is now formulating an official policy for naming conventions on their new social network. Continue
There are legitimate reasons that users might need to use pseudonyms. The most obvious and crucial one is anonymity for political dissidents and social activists. Without that anonymity, activism can be too dangerous to…

I am not an avid user of Facebook, but I do use it occasionally for events. After people found out I had finally joined the Facebook hive I started getting friend invites from a whole lot of people. At first I accepted them all with open arms thinking I'm was the coolest guy on the internet. But then reality kicked in and I found out that I don't really give a fuck if someone is going to go work out today, or if someone just painted their toenails. But then there is the worst of it… Continue

I really feel restrained in terms of what I can post on my Facebook page due to having so many religious friends and family members. I usually just end up just liking other posts or sharing something not likely to offend to many. Yet at the same time, I have to see their constant barrage of postings about their imaginary friend. Give me a fracking break. I think I'm going to start posting more on here because I feel like I have to be fake on Facebook.

If you've read my info section, you'll know that I have to be careful about content I put on Facebook. I go to a bible college and it wouldn't be enough to delete all the staff (I already had when they asked me to take my theology off of it) - I have to be careful with what I say around most of my friends (apparently Facebook friends of mine reported my 'heretical beliefs' to the dean of students). It should go without saying that I know all about religious manipulation.

Some of you may remember that I received a Facebook message from a Christian friend of mine awhile back, wherein she took it upon herself to tell me how much God loves me and all that. I responded to her in kind, explaining as nicely as I could why I no longer believe. I never got a response from her after that. Continue
Tonight, I received a message from a cousin. She was raised Catholic and although I don't think she really practices anymore, she…

Just something I found interesting. Many people who can go online have a Facebook account so *if what most people say is true in anyway then*
it's a pretty accurate site to create public polls that will have realistic results. This morning I came across a Facebook Group whose aim was "We Can Find 1,000,000 People Who DO Believe In Evolution Before June"
thanks to a friend
suggesting it to me.… Continue

I posted this on the Forum, as well, under the "Coming Out" section. :)
So, I'm a pretty new atheist. I've been a doubter for a very, very long time, but, until recently, just didn't deal with that aspect of my life. I just pushed it aside and ignored it. It's just been in the past couple of months that I've confronted the question of what I believe and come to realize that I am, indeed, an atheist. I've come out to a few people - my husband, my sister, a friend from work. But no one… Continue

Of all the insults, of all the absurdities and smug assertions of superiority, this one
will always have a special place in my memories. This post, my friends, takes the cake.
I was arguing with somebody on Facebook, and she got so fed up she left in a huff. As is sometimes the case with online debaters who get really worked up about a debate they're in, she set her husband on me.… Continue
