My debate, if it can be called that, with the vice president of CARM.org

So a little while ago I joined the forums at the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry (CARM) in the hopes of being able to actually have some productive discussions with Christians rather than the typical troll fests I often have on Sodahead. Ironically enough, there are far more trolls on CARM than there are on Sodahead, but I digress. After a few weeks of extremely bad arguments from the Christians on the forum, I eventually noticed that the vice president of CARM, Diane Sellner,…

A Good Watch.

While I am a big fan of Court T.V. (Judge Judy is my favorite! Followed by Peoples Court). I occasionally get a yen for something more substantial. To the magical land of Youtube and I found this great 2 hour debate with Stephen Fry, Christopher Hitchens, and a Catholic Priest and a woman involved with the Catholic Church. It was polite, smart, with some smatterings of humor and of course there was the Q&A session at the end.

It's two hours long, but it's a great watch.…

Productive Dialog with Theists

Nobody enjoys a good argument more than I do, especially when I’m right.  As a counselor though, I am very much aware that most of the time heated arguments only serve to solidify the position one has already taken.  Consider the debates we see on the news.  Democrats and Republicans regularly skewer

each other.  We never see a Republican say “Gosh!  You’re right!  What was I thinking all this time?” Likewise, Democrats in debate generally don’t suddenly say “Wow!  Reaganomics really…

A Majority of Christians Know Little About Their Religion

My alternate title for this piece was "You Don't Know Jack," but it would be such a reach, so, I said it plainly. Occasionally, a Christian or two chooses to debate me about the Bible and of course I leave them asking themselves why they chose me to debate. It is not that I am a great debater, rather, it is that they know so little about the Bible. As long as we speak of the Bible itself as far as content, they manage to hang in until the discrepancies, autocratic behaviors, sexism…

The Science of Good and Evil (London, April 11th, 2011)

I am going down to London to go see Sam Harris in an Intelligence Squared debate the "reverand" Dr Giles Fraser, Canon Chancellor of St Paul's Cathedral on the topic of where do our ideas about morality and meaning come from?

The last time I went to one of these it was the now legendary Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry Vs Anne Widdecombe and Archbishop John…

15 things you should know about debating.

1. You can't usually "win" a debate, the losing party usually scatter

when they've had enough.

2. Debating with your non-debating friends is like playing paintball

with inexperienced people. It's too easy, and if they're irrational,

immature and/or illogical they won't drop their belief or disbelief that

was wrong, they'll hate you for pointing it out and calling on it.

3. Personal attacks are commonplace. It only happens when the losing

party has… Continue

The Never Ending Story!

It the Never ending stooooooooorrryyyyyyyy!!!! (And for those of you who have not seen the movie, Don't Watch It!)

Atheism Vs Theism is an old debate, a long and old debate.

I am a dedicated Atheist, I will fight with Theism on every front, but this old tired process of Atheism being the minority is getting on my Nerves!

Why must Atheism continue to be the minority?

The Debate reminds me of an analogy: Two kids are sitting in a sandbox, pulling… Continue

Okay... So.. I think Penn Jillette is one of the more brilliant people on this planet. I loved the Bullshit series.. and now he has a series on YouTube called "Penn Says"... you should check it out..

One of his "Penn Says" posts is about some Cardinal guy that insinuates "Atheists are less than human"... basically because they dont have god in their lives.

Their video debate has been posted.
