Proving the Poobah’s posts are prescient, it’s seems the threat to smite the Mormons over posthumous baptisms caused them to collapse into mint jelly and quash the practice.
Maybe.

The Existential Meaning of "Groundhog Day"
“Now that I’ve shed my skin completely, One true reality alone exists.”
Zen saying
Zen monk: “How should I escape birth and death?” Zen Master Shih-kung: “What is the use of escaping it?”
“In this world, we eat, shit, sleep and wake up. After that all we have to do is die.”
Inkyu
Once again it’s Groundhog Day, which was nothing more than a rather witless locally-oriented celebration (and an American…

Jewish Atheist Fasts on Yom Kippur! (and other High Holiday thoughts)
God is the immemorial refuge of the incompetent, the helpless, the miserable. They find not only sanctuary in His arms, but also a kind of superiority, soothing to their macerated egos: he will set them above their betters.”
H.L. Mencken
“If this is your God, he is not very impressive. He has many psychological problems; he’s so insecure. He demands worship every seven days. He goes out and creates faulty humans and then blames them for his own mistakes.…

PS. On Labor Day and Work: A Real-life Bartleby
"I called to him, rapidly stating what it was I wanted him to do—namely, to examine a small paper with me. Imagine my surprise, nay, my consternation, when without moving from his privacy, Bartleby in a singularly mild, firm voice, replied, ‘I would prefer not to.’
I sat awhile in perfect silence, rallying my stunned faculties. Immediately it occurred to me that my ears had deceived me, or Bartleby had entirely misunderstood my meaning. I repeated my request in the…

Question for messianic believers: And then what?
“An inch away, total darkness.”
Zen saying
"If you believe in judgment day, then I have to seriously question your judgment."
Bill Maher
“Prepare for tomorrow by doing your best today.”
Life’s Little Instruction Calendar, Volume V
Religious radio and TV are great sources of amusement for me. I love to watch the strutting, sweating televangelists spouting their childish BS…

2012 International Women’s Day - Atheist Women - Courage - Support - Human Rights
I just got back from running an errand, I was picking up a few things at the local convenience store. When I got to the counter to pay for my purchases, I greeted the manager of the store (a woman, and an acquaintance) with; "Happy International Women's Day". She responded, "Is that what it is?"

Human Rights cannot be addressed without the inclusion of all humans, irrespective of gender.

Mormons! I Smite Thee in the Name of Common Sense
Theists, I appreciate your prayers for my heathen soul, but there’s no need. Really. I’m an atheist. I’m good. And Mormons, posthumous baptism is even more than one step over the line. That’s even more unneeded, creepy, and unwanted – unless you want to modify that whole…

Another Secular Student Alliance production, sort of...
I just learned, via facebook, that the SkeptICTs of Wichita State University are going to have a free event this May 21, 2011. It is being put on by the Air Capital Skeptics. I guess this is the day for "Rapture" as it is being held as a "Rapture Day" event. Apparently another religious adherent has taken it upon himself to figure out the day that Jesus is going to return to Earth. Or at least begin the Rapture.I think it should be May 22, so we wo0uldn't have to deal with their crap…

There are many things for which I'm thankful, and I have no problem saying so...even directly to the people to whom and for whom I am thankful. But this alleged holiday, like all the others, really pisses me…

Chapter Eight; SUNDAY GO TO MEETING part twenty-eight

On any given Sunday morning driving around in America presents a strange occurrence. It is the furthest divergence of the two groups
ideologically wish to have to do with each other. The faithful adherents
make their way through various traditions of attendance to their place
of worship. They are the ones that populate the early morning traffic on
Sunday mornings. The…
