A difference between theism and atheism is each's idea of morality. To the theist, whether Jew, Christian, or Muslim, morality is linked to obedience to alleged divine commands. A theist conforms to God's commands whether they call for proselyting or committing acts of murder and genocide. So the theist believes morality is linked to obeying God without question or deliberation. Continue
The atheist, however, bases morality on doing what's right based on reasoning and…

Being an Ex-Muslim and born of Pakistan, it sure brings with itself a barrage of problems, pressures, ridicule and a lot of threats, especially if you happen to be an atheist and are fighting for your right to be an apostate or stand and oppose religious beliefs. Continue
If you happen to be born in a country that takes Islam as the forefront for law-making, rights and the way of life to be run in that country, then you're most likely stripped away with a great deal of freedom of choice,…

Disclaimer: I'm a former Christian who is now an atheist. I have nothing against most theists and respect their beliefs - up to the point where they step on mine. However, even in my Christian days I would've been appalled by the hubris of this plan.
I'm overjoyed so many religious people are so protective of my soul that they insist upon preaching to me at every… Continue

I have a story I would like to share with my fellow Nexus users. Months ago when I was in Middle School, we had a day where someone from our town would read a story to our section (class). Yeah I know it sounds childish, but get over it.
Well lucky us, we got a local catholic priest. I thought to myself this should be good, because I kind of expected him to start preaching to us. I actually really did like him though, because he did not shove his beliefs down our throats and he never… Continue

This blog was prompted by a recent YouTube video add in the "Atheist Humor" group wherein some guy with an Australian accent is sitting in some posh room a la "Masterpiece Theater" and ranting about people who are "too stupid to be an Atheist".
His target this time around was "Humanities" students with Liberal Arts degrees who scoff at Christians.
I happen to be one of those people with what basically amounts to a Liberal Arts degree, as I am a teacher of Art and Theatre. … Continue

Many people say, “There are no atheists in foxholes.” As a practical matter this obviously isn’t the case, but the Army’s new Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Program (CSFP)… Continue

In the United States there is a widespread idea that there is an ongoing "war on Christmas" waged by atheists and in general, people who prefer a secular government in which every person has the same rights. As usual, this idea is proposed by the whiny religious right (mainly conservative Christians). Continue

I have been what I call a devoted and or a committed atheist for about 10 years now. After getting free from the repression of the “Steve Abrams” family of Kansas. Yes, the Steve Abrams that was on the Kansas State Board of Education that thought evolution wasn't such a good thing to teach in science classes in public school. So I have seen a few things change in the past few years in my life and in the current cultural discussion. I may go into that later but… Continue

As far as the religious go, you could say that Frank Schaeffer is one of the good guys. He is the son of one of the first televangelists, Francis Schaeffer, and in his book, Crazy for God
, he did a great job explaining how he helped found the Religious Right, and why he now regretted it.
As being somewhat… Continue

I have had an awesome trip to the Bay Area beginning with a fun group at Berkeley on Friday. I enjoyed a good time with Nick Gwenn and others afterwards. On to San Francisco Atheists on Saturday with Larry Hicok and Dave Kong. They had a great turnout. Not sure how many, but there weren't any seats left in the house. Last night (Tuesday, Nov. 3) I spoke at U.C. Davis to an incredible crowd. Around 120 attended. Shiva and her Agnostics and Atheists group did a superb job of getting the word out.… Continue

First, lets forget I asked that question because even if someone says I can't - I DON'T CARE BECAUSE I DO.
But seriously, is there anybody else out there who doesn't believe in Gods but thinks there could be a different plane of existance.
I've seen a few Ghosts, mostly Family members or fallen pets and other just random people who clung to this world after death I suppose. I've never felt scared or threatend by any of them, well... one time I thought my room shaking a bit odd… Continue

(As per Dictonary.com) is “the belief in one God as the creator and ruler of the universe, without rejection of revelation”. Those who follow this age old belief are, as I call them, 'Theists'. What good has 'Theists' offered to the world? Well, they have offered only destruction to this world. They have killed MILLIONS over petty, 'Religious Wars'. They stoop to under-handed attempts to block out any thought that goes against anything they say, under their false banner of… Continue

If being evangelical about atheism is ok, what's wrong with... defining metaphysics from a philosophical secular and rational perspective as Objectivism has done?
That's what I do. It says that ideas about the nature of things must have their root in sensory data, not whim.
I don't care that a bunch of irrational people have carelessly used the philosophical term metaphysics to pile irrationality upon irrational belief based on whim and non-fact. This irrational use of the… Continue
