As with any new thing in one's life, there is a honeymoon period where everything is perfect and life is better than it has ever been. Now consider that I came to Atheism on my own and with little or no persuasion. It took me years of becoming displeased with Christian morality, or the lack there of, before I was willing to accept foreign ideas. My family and identity was so entangled with faith that I feared I would be set outside the fold. To date, I have had very mixed reactions. I…Continue

Any discussion about sexuality is complicated by messy overlapping categories. Are there people who reject all homosexuality only out of religious faith? Certainly. Are some of them sexually uptight? Absolutely. However, it can equally be said that some atheists are perverts who, out of desperation or dogmatism, will have any sort of sex with anything, and have a knee-jerk sympathy for any sort of perversion.
The marriage debate is relatively unimportant except as a distraction…Continue
I'll be attending the NDOR events in Raleigh, NC with some of my friends from our local Coalition of Reason group in the Piedmont Triad, NC. Greta Christina, Dan Barker, Todd Stiefel and more will be there.
For any reading this who feel that they are the "only non-believer I know", they should check to see what events will be taking place in their home towns, or…

Before I start here, let me say that I know this sounds a bit insensitive to the LGBTQ community, but it is not intended as such. I am in no way attempting to diminish the contributions to our species by homosexuals in our branch of the Tree of Life, but for simplicity's sake, I'm sticking with the very basic, primitive idea of a family unit here. Please forgive me if it offends...
It is statistically proven that there are far fewer female atheists…Continue

If your going to be at the Reason Rally, one of the most highly anticipated Secular event, be sure to sign up for the National Atheist Party Meet and Greet. The event will be on the Saturday evening after the REASON RALLY for all those who are interested in learning more about the party, meeting other members, leadership or just to meet other…Continue
A CLOSE examination of the validity of the proofs adduced to support any proposition, has ever been allowed to be the only sure way of attaining truth, upon the advantages of which it is unnecessary to descant; our knowledge of the existence of a Deity is a subject of such importance, that it cannot be too minutely investigated; in consequence of this conviction, we proceed briefly and impartially to examine the proofs which have…Continue
Non-believers need parables too...here's one I posted on my blog http://richardcahill.net a few months ago.
A man had owned a seaside bar in a harbor town for many years. Most of those years had been prosperous; his bar's deck was the widest and his beer was the coldest and his waitresses the most nubile of any bar in the town. Tourists and locals alike flocked to his club to drink and…Continue
Let me start by saying one thing: I've always been an Atheist. I was born an Atheist (as everyone did) and my parents Catholicism just never took with me. In the third grade, I came across a definition of Atheism in the dictionary at my parochial grade school and it changed my life forever (this story also includes my friend Bill and I discovering the definition of "Fart" in the same dictionary). For the first time I had a title for what I felt beyond simply "Different." Throughout my…Continue
The odds are high that the Westboro Baptist Church is likely to attend the Reason Rally, the largest Secular event in history, and the National Atheist Party would like to formally invite them to stop by their booth…Continue
In the US, when people mention the word Libertarian, I think of Ayn Rand, …and have to fight a gag response. This to me is usually a neo-liberal/right wing/anarcho-capitalist simplification.
But, this is all relative, the word libertarian (small "L") meant an entirely different thing to my father, who also equated it with a strong sense of socially responsible governance as a means to achieve a greater good. Conservatives like to tout their "fiscally conservative" positions,…Continue

Before I start on my rant, I do want to say that I admire and respect those who took the initiative to take on such a major venture that is, in my opinion, a historic turning point.
It is a necessary and important step.
Kudos to them, even if I don’t agree with the name of the party.…
I'm an Atheist, but I like most Theists. Really, I do. Admittedly I don't agree with them, but I'm also…Continue
