The unmentionable aspect of the financial crisis

When Theocracies collide.

To date, I have only seen this mentioned once in a blog (which I neglected to bookmark) and once on one Australia's SBS current affairs programs (its one of those taxpayer funded communist channels that no one watches, kind of like PBS).

This meltdown can be viewed as quite an emphatic victory for Al Qaeda. Those jolly jokers must be doing somersaults in their turbans. Their aims were never… Continue

Shit. Just shit.

Fuck! is probably closer.

I was awakened before 09:00, when my alarm was going to go off.

By a phene call.

From my previous boss.

My friend and former co-worker Duane had been hit by a car this morning about 06:50.

This is the same crosswalk where my… Continue

Altruism

I am a cynic in the sense that I think that people intrinsically have underlying selfish motives whether they be conscious or unconscious. I have doubts in pure altruism, meaning that I think that most if not all acts have a selfish motive. While some acts may have been acted on in the interest of another, I doubt that those acts do not also have a selfish motive. To me, this can even be the "good" feeling you get from helping another. People will argue that when they perform such an act (which… Continue

Gov. Avon Lady & the Witch Doctor

Watch this clip from Bill Maher's Real Time:

And finally, new rule: You can’t be President if you practice a violent, Middle Eastern religion and worship a genocidal desert god. Which is why Sarah Palin can’t be President. Now all the churches that Sarah Palin has attended, and she’s been to almost as many churches as she has colleges, have one thing in common: a belief that the Bible is literally true. She’s not “Country First”, she’s “Bible First”. And not just the New…

Well, it was not a perfect day... I didn't get to sleep until 08:00 this morning.

I had told Lana that we would do something fun today, and totally flaked out, and she probably hates me now, dammit.

I'm hoping that when I start going to the Y on a regular basis, this will pass.

So I got up about noonish,… Continue

Sean Hannity Tribute

Been a Long Time Gone...

I have been a very bad girl. I'm sorry I've been absent so long. Something I regret everyday is my unwillingness to express myself. I'm not exactly a hermit, but I've been called such, and would tend to agree. One thing I love and despise about my search for knowledge and understanding is the way in which it applies to me. My love of knowledge extends to my self-awareness, and sometimes that isn't so shiny. Everyone has their issues, and while mine overwhelm me at times, I can say that I am… Continue

A nice day all around.

Not perfect, but after all, how many perfect days will there ever be?

Yeah, I didn't win the lottery. I would have, but I forgot to buy the ticket, dammit.

It was yet another beautiful Kansas day, and I enjoyed a lot of it outside.

Well, not the whole day, but the… Continue

North Carolina Pride Festival

I went to the North Carolina Pride festival again this year and had a good time. One thing that was new this year is that finally an Atheist group was represented! The Raleigh/Durham Atheist meetup had a booth there thanks to one of it's members, Alex. http://atheists.meetup.com/80 I'm a member of the meetup; I was very excited to see the event posting and helped work the booth. We had several people come up and talk to us and none of them were… Continue

Sam Harris on Palin

This is probably old news to most of you, but Sam Harris wrote an excellent piece for Newsweek: Newsweek.com | When Atheists Attack:

A noted provocateur rips Sarah Palin—and defends elitism
.

Yeah, it's got a crappy title. Anyway, here are what I would consider to be highlights:

"Here, finally, was a performer who—being maternal, wounded, righteous and sexy—could stride past the frontal cortex of every American… Continue

How hard could that be?

I think I said it in my profile that I listen to a Lot of podcasts. When your job requires so little thought that you can just put yourself on auto-pilot, why not use that time to get in some education? Every few weeks I go searching the Internet for new podcasts because the ones I have either haven't updated in a while, or I'm ready for a new mind tickle. Yesterday, I did another search and discovered Free Domain Radio hosted by Stephan Molyneux. I think I recognized the voice from a Hellbound… Continue

CONFESS!

Prepare thyself, he who reads this, to tremble and quake before the Incredible Word of God, as written by THE LORD HIMSELF!

I was sitting on My Eternal Throne just now, pondering things you cannot possibly fathom when I realized: I am very disappointed in every single human being on Earth.

None of you are perfect in My Eyes. You have all sinned and fallen short of the Glory of Me. Need I remind you that the wages of sin… Continue

God takes credit for Mother Nature

I’m aggravated with people (creationists) giving “God” all the credit all the time for everything that they find good, beautiful, and right, in their lives. This man-made “God” gets all of the credit that should go to Nature. People need to respect Nature, the Universe, not God. If people don’t take care of our only known livable planet, it will die, and us along with it. Admit it; there is and will be no God to save us when we have destroyed the planet and all of its resources. I’m sure the… Continue

It's only natural

A few years ago, I took a continuing adult education class on astronomy. I thought it was a real, accredited college class, but no, it wasn't. This was in the days before I was an atheist. If anything, I would have called those months a time when I was a pantheist. I entered the class ready to be bombarded with facts, new discoveries, and difficult tests that would justify complaining to people that I had to study. It wasn't that kind of class. Don't misunderstand me. It was very good for an… Continue

The Devil Goes Down to Georgia

devil320991 I read to Delaney's first grade class yesterday. She had prepped me for my visit like a military operation, reminding me at least five times of the exact time and S.O.P.

"There's a chair you sit in, and I'll sit right by you," she said. "You have to bring three stories, but don't be sad if we don't get to all three."

I promised to hold it together.

She nodded, then ran upstairs to rummage through her books. Five minutes later she was downstairs,… Continue
