Religion, Atheism And Emotional Pain

Religion, Atheism And Emotional Pain

A while ago I defined the most fundamental difference between humans and animals as the conscious ability to choose between either breeding or not breeding as an individual preference.    This is of course also the case with the choice to override other instincts.

Animals are robots, whose behavior is driven primarily by recurrent instinctive urges to restore…

Jerusalem as an International city?

It seems simple, but it is hard to achieve.

We all know of the Religious killing each other over Israel and Jerusalem in particular. The Israelis have their state, the Palestinians want to have their own state. Lines have been drawn in the sand, nations of the world are backing either the Israelis or the Palestinians.  Fighting for Jerusalem has caused the city to be split into sections.

However, it seems that the answer is quite clear.

Why doesn't the UN simply make…

A Peace Pilgrimage with No Peace

Interesting article this morning...

25 years ago, Pope John Paul II invited Jews, Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims to a pilgrimage at the Umbrian hilltop town of Assisi, where leaders shared in common prayers for a daylong prayer for peace.  On October 27th, Pope Benedict XVI is attempting to repeat this event, however this time, Thursday's event will only feature time for individual prayer and reflection.  The estimated 300 participants will be given time to pray silently in…

Selfishness And Identity

Selfishness And Identity

Selfishness as a trait means considering oneself entitled to selfish behavior including the justification for such behavior in the past and the planning or willingness for such behavior in the future.

Selfish behavior is
  1. subjectively beneficial for the one acting selfishly.
  2. subjectively or objectively harmful to the target,…

It may be Tuesday, but it feels like Monday

I pushed myself too hard, and now I am paying for it.

My surgical pain is at the same level that it was a week ago. I'm angry at myself for being weak. What makes me even more angry is that it took me spending time with the boyfriend to realize I shouldn't have to DO everything. But oh does it make me feel inadequate.

I started classes yesterday and it looks like it is going to be really easy.

Also...

Folks, I need you to do me a favor. My best…

Defining Who We Are As People....

Steve Jobs should be applauded not for all the money he accumulated, but for what his iPad is doing to assist our autistic children.  I wish that somebody would create a similar product to help our wounded warriors.  People take for granted on a daily basis objects that we use in our daily life.  If we are truly united under one, each one of us should reach out to a wounded warrior, a person in need, and as the movie said, ‘pay it forward’.  That defines who we are as people.  Not through…

We Should Applaud Our Soldiers

New Zealand winning the Stanley Cup was important to many around the world.  It grabbed all the wonderful headlines and the great news coverage.  There was great joy drinking in celebration.  On the same day we announced that our troops were coming home from Iraq; There should be joy and celebration.  The rugby players go home to jobs and glory... our service men and women come home to hospitals, families, broken homes, and in most cases, no jobs.  Maybe we should begin a national registrar…

Additonally....

And why don't we call the vineyard growers and the farmers in Cali and adjoining states that dangle the fruit of money to these immigrants illegal as well, for without their immediate employment, harsh living conditions and slave labor, the impression of this nirvana might not exist.

Breeders, Non-Breeders And The Reciprocal Accusation Of Selfishness

Breeders, Non-Breeders And The Reciprocal Accusation Of Selfishness

Breeders and non-breeders often accuse each other of being selfish.   This is remarkable, as being selfish means attempting to get benefits for oneself disregarding conflicting interests.    Accusing someone else of being selfish implies the agreement, that the allegedly selfish behavior is indeed beneficial for the accused. Evaluating another person's behavior as…
