Alone

Without God, there's no one to call upon. Without family or friends, I'm out here on my own. There's no comfort or relief in knowing someone's here for me even though I may feel alone. The truth is that I AM alone. Sometimes I think that my imaginary friend was very necessary to my sanity. Sure, it's easy for those with strong support groups to denounce God without much emotional turbulence. But it still feels lonely sometimes when that's all I ever had. Logic would no longer allow me to… Continue

CFI London

Had an awesome time speaking to CFI London Saturday. Totally tired from jet lag but still managed to down two pints of Guinness after and talk

for a couple hours in the pub with Stephen Law, Richard Green and many

of the CFI and Atheist UK people. Didn't get an official count but about 70 people for a noon talk on Saturday. Very lively Q&A afterwards.…

Witches Are't Cute

Witches aren’t cute. They’re a reminder of everything that is wrong with ignorance and superstition. Primitive people demand scapegoats—someone to blame, someone to punish—for whatever goes wrong. It’s never their own fault. Witches are still persecuted in backward areas of the world today. It’s only a few hundred years since European and American society outgrew witch hunts. Our forbearers tortured and executed witches on a scale comparable to the holocaust.

The treatment of witches… Continue

Are you a :gnu: atheist?

Ok, so I just read this article by P Z Myers and felt the need to post a link here. I believe this is what Richard Dawkins meant by the phrase "militant atheism".

Here's the link:

Mormon Google add at the top of THIS page...

This is my first blog post; a brief and baffling observation:

I logged on to further investigate this wonderful forum.

At the top of the page, I saw a video with a link to click.

I assumed because the title included the word 'Mormon',

that it must be there for a reason; perhaps it was posted by a nexus member,

for educational and/or 'recreational' purposes.

To my surprise, it was a micro-documentary about a woman who has adopted

some disabled children, their… Continue

The Hijacking of Atheism in Australia

Introduction

The Atheist Foundation of Australia has taken it upon themselves to redefine the meaning of atheism thereby hijacking the atheist agenda in Australia in order to exclude those that don't fit their "unique" criteria. One of those groups that are excluded by the AFA is Buddhists. As a Buddhist I must respond to this distortion of atheism for their own agenda and show that the AFA is not in fact an atheist… Continue

Christian's Must Hate Choice

About 2 days ago, lines of christians stood or sat along 5th Avenue here in Huntington, WV with signs. At first glance, I wasn't sure what their message was because the first sign stated, "Jesus forgives you". I thought at first that maybe it was regarding some incident at Marshall University that I was not aware of since I don't go to that school. As I continued along, various anti-abortion signs were being shown by young and old alike. Instantly I was filled with a uncontrollable rage.

I… Continue

Heterosexual man wears toe ring.

It's true, I am heterosexual and I wear a toe ring. I know I am not the only man doing this, but I do think I'm the only one in this right-wing conservative town. I have gotten some funny looks from people, but a few compliments have been given as well. My wife doesn't see it as a problem; in fact she encourages me to be myself and ignore the closed-minded sheep. The compliments came from my doctor and a nurse that works for her. (Yes my doctor is female and so is the nurse.) Both of them said… Continue

Fundamentalists are Closing Ranks

Efforts to ban the niqab, an Islamic face veil required under some interpretations of Sharia, are met with resistance and hostility by fundy Muslims and even some moderate and liberal Muslims. This is terrible thing, but understandable given…

The Insulting Idolatry of Theism

While I reject the idea that the Universe is governed by some supremely powerful entity who exercises sovereignty over the cosmos and intervenes in the daily lives of humble monkeys inhabiting a tiny planet at the ass end of nowhere, I fully recognize the reality that the Universe is governed by a vast number of physical properties and principles. The critical difference between ascribing the wonder and complexity of the Universe to the machinations of a deity…

Sharia Law and the Stoning of Women

The government of Iran is upset because of a film made that accurately depicts the execution by stoning of a woman accused and convicted of adultery. This is the garden level hypocrisy of the religious.

According to Sky News:

The film's director, Cyrus Nowrasteh, has dedicated the screening to Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani currently…
