I married an immigrant too. He is English and a skilled carpenter (now a contractor). we got married for love, or at least I thought so at the time. I still think how does any of this hurt another? Straights have been doing it for decades - why can't my gay friends get married and have the same civil rights? They pay taxes, correct?

Site still broken - here is my response to you:
I am so aware of what you say. My Mom died of cancer, and my dad died of a fatal heart attack after getting a clean bill of health from his doctors. I tried to talk to them, but i was the odd red haired step child in the shed, so to speak. It's not good to take the illusions away from those who need them. There are times I wish there was a deity who loved me and looked after me, but I am happier with the truth, and I… Continue

Can't answer Feralboy12's comment, so I will put it here:
Jesus' words on marriage, from Luke 20:35: "But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage."
Marriage is so sacred that, according to Jesus, it makes you ineligible for heaven. >>

Another day at the job where I bite my tongue so hard it shreds in my mouth.
Most of us who are working outside the home have to work with other people. Sometimes, no, for me most of the time, my co-workers are like family. Not in the way that i feel so very close to them, but we spend an awful lot of time together. In close quarters. Yes, it's government work, so I can't talk a lot about it, but I don't need to to tell this story. It's probably a familiar story to… Continue

My Brethren without Christ, I have to let you know you're all a bunch of Darwinian primates. (Just hit the link below to get the joke.) I just got back from the September 28, 2010, Dinesh D'Souza/Michael Shermer debate at USF in Tampa. They took questions at the end of the session and I got a chance to ask the following question in front of around a thousand attendees.
The opening… Continue

I can't seem to stop spewing. I had a lovely day with a co-worker who is a friend, and a christian in a broad sense3, as she is not of any denomination, and I don't think she's actually read the bible (buy-bull) cover to cover, and she also hols some weird ideas about karma and destiny.
She knows where I stand on things. We agree to disagree, for the most part, but we are becoming closer, and I do call her my friend.
I like to say we are of the same age, even though she… Continue

I have a dear friend who is a Pagan, much like I was, although she belongs to an organized Orthodox Egyptian Temple. Even in my Witchcraft years, I gave this org the side-eye, because *my* paganism wasn't organized; there were no tithes, no set scripture (my paganism was very Earth-centric, so me and my ilk went by what the land was telling us, whatever that meant - I guess I still use that in gardening).
I wrote a Live Journal post comparing and contrasting the good science has done… Continue

I love fossils. The mere existance throws a bigs wrench into the whole religion thing. It took me many years to admit it, but facts is facts.
I love carbon dating. Besides the fact that I have not had any other types of dates lately, carbon dating proves we are older than the 'great story' says.
Science is based on gathered and tested knowledge. I find it interesting that those of 'faith' turn to the same science they despise when they are ill or injured. Why wont god heal… Continue

It's a story I want to tell. It's my story, and I think it might be the story of others who find themselves Atheist after a long journey.
There are plenty of stories about the cruelty of Abramaic religions (The Big three) and many reject that out of hand as soon as they learn some science or even some compassion for their fellow beings. Majority religions get plenty of criticism; you have the Big Three hating on each other, and in my country, Islam has surpassed Judaism for the Big… Continue

In the recent years I have experienced the loss of three family members. I understand that a persons religious beliefs can bring them peace. That is all fine and dandy. For me when someone dies, They are gone. Remembering them in a loving way is the best way to honor them.
I have heard many consoling words."They are in heaven now"., "She is with Jesus now", "He is with his wife", "they are in a better place", Ect, ect. I accept these words as a showing of love and concern. Nothing… Continue

Last week I drove by an estate sale sign, and had to stop and check for bargains. My god, that lady collected a lot of stuff. I asked the people at the sale, was this one estate or multiple. They assured me it all belonged to one widow who may have lived in that house for 45 years. Stuff was packed into banana boxes, piled up and packed solid into rooms in the basement, then the garage, then the spare bedroom.
I bought a couple of glass pie plates. The one thing I can… Continue

There are people out there who think that the wold is supposed to be a nice, happy, joyful, fair and just place. It is not
and it never
has been. The world is a cruel unfair and unjust place. Bad things happen to good people, bad people get away with doing bad things, shit happens to every one, innocent people suffer and ass holes don't get their comeupance!

There currently exists a highly active, and insidious, effort to convert members of the U.S. military to evangelical Christianity. From what I have thus far read, this is being done inside the armed services by high ranking officers working with the likes Franklin Graham (Billy Graham’s be-knighted offspring), and others. On September 25, 2010, a concert was… Continue

I had some crippling chest pains last week, I thought I was having a heart attack except my left arm didn't go numb. So I did what any self respecting man does and ignored it. My sis went into the hospital over the weekend for the same thing. It turns out it was possibly her lupus attacking her heart.
I started talking to my other sister who has it and the rosasia on my face? A possible sign of Lupus. The joint pain I went to the doctor last month about and is still bothering me? A… Continue

I would rather like to make more atheist friends because it's nice to know you are on the same page, but, I really don't want to spend too much time talking about being one. I figured out all the reasons I did not believe about 14 years ago, not sure I like constantly rehashing it. I've found that to be the trouble with other atheist groups I've been in. After we get done talking about creationism in schools, or the crazy religious right, we seem to have little else to talk about and it gets a… Continue
