CHARLATAN REPORT:

Here's an amazing, true story in today's current news. This 'bishop' leads a mega-church congregation comprised of several churches (6) in Texas.

"maximize your life by joining our cyber church" is one of their fabulous slogans. Bishop I.V. Hilliard, the charismatic leader of this scam lives an opulent life of luxury on the backs of these believers. …

New member

Hello, my name is Jonathan Douglas Kreuz and I am new here to Atheist Nexus. Id like to start by asking all of you to give me a chance and to not be decieved by my appearance and take me seriously, I could understand why you would all be quick to disregard a seven-teen year olds opinion, but I assure you that for someone of such a youthful state I am able to speak and hold conversations in a respectful manner with almost anyone, so long as they are not less mature then myself. I have spent…

Ernie Pyle and others

Among so many other things, there's one thing I'm not very good at: writing. But I read a lot and appreciate good writing. (It's the same with art and music.)

I enjoy reading about famous and less-than-famous people, mostly from the the past: for example, Houdini, Zambrini, Ripley (Believe it or Not), and recently, Ernie Pyle.

Pyle was a native Hoosier (Dana, IN), about 60 miles from where I live. He became famous as a war correspondant (WW II), eventually getting killed by a…

The Deceitful Heart

From my Google atheism blog.

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" [Jeremiah 17:9].

Fundamentalist Christians believe the Bible to be the inerrant and infallible word of God. But who wrote the Bible ? The short answer is men wrote the Bible. "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: But holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost". [II Peter 1:21].

So this is the…

The Right to be Gay.

This comes from my atheism blog on Google blogs.

"The humanity of all Americans is diminished when any group is denied rights granted to others" [Julian Bond].

What do Christians have to fear from letting gay people express their love and devotion to one another ? Nothing actually. The love two people feel for one another, the sex of two consenting adults, whether heterosexual or homosexual, does me no harm in the least. What two consenting adults feel for one…

Just Say No

Abortion, Gay Marriage & the GRA

I promised to avoid discussing these issues because I believe most Americans

cannot intelligently discuss the topics because of prior conditioning and outright ignorance. Today the

United States Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act a decision that mad

e some happy and upset others. The first groups to complain were church groups speaking of degrading the v

alue of marriage totally…

Big weekend for USA and world considering... Atheist monument going up...

http://www.thenewamerican.com/culture/faith-and-morals/item/15695-florida-county-to-host-nation-s-first-official-atheist-monument

Will Sexton, an attorney for the county, explained that neither the religious monument nor the atheist display implies that the county is either establishing a religion or denying one. In fact, he noted,…

The truth I've hidden from myself.

I am fat, I know I am and even if I didn’t know I was people tell me often enough when I am in public. I have always been bigger, but I was at least active. I went to the gym and took part in the martial arts for years.

I’ve been trying to lose weight again and I have been but I haven’t lost anything in a month now. I fear I am going about to gain it all back which would just send me into depression worse than I already deal with on a daily basis.

Depression has always been an…

"Blessings"

I don't know about the rest of you, but I get disgusted at the piousness of others.

When my golfing foursome ate lunch last week, one of the guys bowed in silent prayer before eating. It was awkward to have to watch him and be silent. I don't know what he said (some words of thanks, I suppose), but I admittedly smirked (to myself).

And how many times have we all heard, "Thank you Lord, for this lovely day" (or whatever)? That really makes me want to gag. I wonder why we never…

I've been banned from CARM.org a second time; apparently honesty is only a virtue when it suits them

So a little while ago I was having a conversation with another atheist on the CARM forums and he had asked me why I have such a low view of CARM's president Matt Slick, a fact that I make no attempt to hide, but I never openly launch attacks against him.

So I told him (the atheist) why I dislike him, not levying any actual insults at him but rather simply explaining what Mr. Slick has done that gave me such a low opinion of him. Apparently my telling the truth and saying that I don't… Continue

When I am an old man

When I am an old man...

I will be surprised I made it that far.  If I do.

It's not that far away.

There's a good chance, I won't.

I will consider it funny to have aches and pains.

I already do.

I will not whine about being old.

Or apologize for aging.

I will consider it honorable and amazing.

I will laugh at myself for being funny looking, and bald, and having ears that stick…

Fine-tuning the concept of God

To create the entire multiverse comprising several universes and our visible universe with 200 billion galaxies, each galaxy with 200 to 400 billion stars, each star with its planets and to create life on some planets, is a stupendous task for any creator. Such a creator cannot be a simple entity. It has to be a very complex entity.

Yet.

We have seen that simple molecules combine to make powerful chemicals.…

Why I want Rainbow Connection as my funeral song.

My husband and I were joking about what we want our funerals to be like when we die, however I got to thinking about one thing. The music. After all, music has been played at every funeral I've been to, and I want a song that isn't religious but something that is personal to me, which I realized is Rainbow Connection, the song I loved for years and always have burned onto a cd along with being on my Itunes.

Why I want the rainbow connection played at my funeral (Lyrics first, then my…

I need to learn to write music, because I've got lyrics!

So a friend reminded me about how I rewrote the words to "Hail Mary" to her name. Most of which I remember and is a running joke. However, what she keeps forgetting was my lyrics to a musical number that I never wrote music for. I thought I'd share the lyrics.

It..just.. takes... just a little faith, just a little faith.

Grab some bread, get some juice, now you have what's for use for

Just a little faith, just a little faith

wear a robe, grow your hair, look like a mess?…

Daniel Dennett's Prediction - The Decline and Fall of Religion

Yet again, we have a case of a video which is too significant to just put up as one more snippet to watch.

There have been and are multiple conversations on Atheist Nexus regarding the rise of atheism and the fall of irrational belief.  Some of these discussions deal in anecdotal data; some with established studies and their results.  What Daniel Dennett has done here, for our benefit, is to pull a great deal of information together regarding both those parameters, what they are…
