Vote Down The Anti-Evolution Law Petition
Please sign this petition:

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that a proposed law in Tennessee encouraging science teachers to "critique" the theory of evolution, human cloning and global warming is a thinly-veiled plan to put bad science in good…

The Most Dangerous Show on the Net - 8 pm ET/5 pm PT TONIGHT!
Looking for a talk-radio show that isn't afraid of the powers that be? That calls it as it is instead of what someone wants to spin it into? That stands up for truth and freedom and does it from an Atheist POV?
The show you're looking for - The Most Dangerous Show on the Net - is American Heathen, and it airs at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT TONIGHT on ShockNet Radio (simulcast on Freethought Radio (…

Married Women Abort for Secret Desire to Make Lesbians Equal
As a former Virginian, I’m all too aware of the asshatery that is Pat Robertson. I once lived a short distance from his colonial palace cum religious law school and occasionally saw some of his on-air “journalists” at the local Farm Fresh. I…

One Nation, Over God: A Lecture By Aaron Bissell
I just want to say, throughout this, I talk about mostly about the Christian religion since that is the one I researched the most.
So, lets cover the basics of religion. Now, I understand that people WAY back then would believe such things as a sun god, a moon god sky god etc. They didn't have modern science. So, they just made up certain stories. Many people from different cultures made up there own gods (well, Christians just picked certain things from other religions and…

Something horribly disturbing that I am starting to notice among fellow atheists
First of all, hey guys! I haven't been on for awhile!
I just wanted to pop back in to my good old atheist community to express some concern over two trends I am noticing in some atheists.
The first is dogmatic atheism. I've gone 5 years never having to encounter a dogmatic atheist and suddenly I've met a couple recently. Atheism is NOT and can NOT be a positive claim. People claiming that there is definitely no god (apparently they exist) need to be confronted whenever…

Hey folks. Nothing major from this end, but I am working with a student on more writing and research on atheism and atheists -and the public perceptions of same, and I will start posting again some of our musings.
Updates? My course on the sociology of atheism did not get enough students enrolled last summer, so I had to shelve it. I was the moderator on a panel on the media treatment of atheism held on our campus earlier this month, and the headline panelist was none…

Moon:Illumination
I remember being 8 years old, sitting in the back of my parents car with my face pressed against the window. I stared in astonishment at the full moon as it chased us. I strained to keep it in sight, catching glimpses of it between the buildings as we whizzed past. Enthralled, I started thinking about the Moon, about what it was and how it got there.
“What?” my mom said, apparently hearing me mumble.
“Uh, nothing...…

Alright, so my life is officially quiet enough now to update on the crap that was stressing me out:
1) The HIV Test I was freaking out about....apparently never existed. As in no one drew blood for it, doctor did not sign off on it, and I was panicking over nothing. Like an idiot.
2) No one told me this until two weeks in. I didn't know if I wanted to laugh or punch their lights out.
3) School is fine, except my teacher still does not…

Being part of the religious minority (Journal 1)
I live in a town in which around 95 percent of residents are of some sort of christian religious denomination. So, naturally, Jews, Muslims, and Atheists are virtually unheard of. In fact, I know of one other Atheist, but, I'm sure that the fear of being the same kind of outcast that myself and that other person are seen as is less than desirable, so, there's likely more. That, or, people tend to meet in church. It's not a "Religion is the supreme law of this town" thing, but churchgoers…

Mindblowingly Amazing. Just. Wow.
34 Photos from The ISS
I couldn't decide if my favourite was the shot of The Milky Way from beyond The Earth or the image of the Aurora - taken from what seems like inside the aurora!! or the sunset reflecting of The Caspian Sea.
Okay - that's my top 3 right there - but they are all of them absolutely awesome. Do your brain…
