This has absolutely nothing to do with atheism but I could use some advice.

I have a dilemma. I haven't dated in years. Not because I can't get a date, but because I got my heart stomp on in the past. So since then I have had a wall up that no one has been able to penetrate. I mean no one...NO ONE! Anyway I just recently spent the weekend with an ex-girlfriend(Not the one that stomped on my heart)This ex is the only ex I am still friends with. she invited me to a party she was throwing at her house, so of course I went. For the most part the night went as expected (we… Continue

That Word Doesn't Mean What He Thinks It Means

Newt Gingrich fears that America might turn into an “secular atheist country… dominated by radical Islamists”. Unlike most of the bloviators on the Right, I always thought that Gingrich, while having the moral fortitude of pond scum, was at least a little more clever. In other words, he’s no George W. Bush. That’s why I can only assume that Gingrich knew how ridiculous his statement was before he said it, but he… Continue

I love it when people give their own "interpretation" of the Bible. As if a lowly, sinful, shitty human interpretation is somehow better and more accurate than the God who supposedly dictated it. If God commands you to stone your unruly children to death, he's not looking for a clever apology. Continue

How is this possible?

Thanks to Hemant Mehta, our Friendly Atheist, for posting this story.

So apparently the good citizens of Asheville, North Carolina are a bit upset that they elected an atheist to the City Council - so now they want the seat back. Amazingly, they have a legal claim to do so as the North Carolina State Constitution has a proviso that stipulates in Article VI, Section 8 that the denial of the existence of Almighty God is reason enough to disqualify a person from holding elected…

A very down time in my life.

Right I am experiencing a very depressing time in my life.  Once upon a time I would look to religion to try and make sense of my circumstances.  But know I realize how patronizing and empty those interactions were and I realize I am the one who must overcome these feelings.  I am in the midst of applying for disability via Social Security and the hoops I must jump through seem never ending, with no end in sight.  I have been waiting months to get an appointment with a pain management doctor…

Recipe for aged Egyptian cheese

There is an old Egyptian recipe for aged cheese that I enjoy making called mish. Today I made some and thought I would share with all of you how to make it as well. This is how you make it...it should be noted you can use whatever kinds of cheese you want, be creative, and add your favorite kinds...this is how I made it.

Take a 1 liter jar which can be sealed (The best are the glass ones with the metal screw tops)

8 Table spoons sour cream

1 Table spoon…

The Unnecessary Organization of My iPod

Most of the music in my iPod are organized by Artist, Album order, and Year they came out. So you have a sense of their growth.

For example:

Black Sabbath/War Pigs/Paranoid/1970

Black Sabbath/Paranoid/Paranoid/1970

Black Sabbath/Planet Caravan/Paranoid/1970

... and so on in the exact order of the album, then their next album:

Black Sabbath/Sweet Leaf/Master of Reality/1971

... then the after that uber collection is done it's on to the next… Continue

Theory of Mind

An essay by – Heather Spoonheim

A solid understanding of theory of mind (ToM) is extremely important to understanding some of the fallacies that derive from its misapplication. ToM “is the ability to attribute mental states—beliefs, intents, desires, pretending, knowledge, etc.—to oneself and others and to understand that others have beliefs, desires and…

Waiting for my Mother's death

Yesterday I was called by the nursing home where my mother has been cared for during the past 3 years.  She has profound Alzheimer's disease.  She has not spoken a meaningful word for 2 years, as far as I can tell.  I live 2000 miles away.  For many years, I tried to move my parents here, where I have plenty of room in my house.  I could have given close, attentive care.  They didn't want to move.  My father died last year.

My mother's name is Maxine.  She was born in a…

Which side of the political line do you fall?

I always just assumed atheists leaned to the left when it came to politics, but that is just a guess. Since I just found this group I thought I’d ask.

I’m not a far left winger; I’m closer to a progressive, but my views don’t always fall strait down party lines (I’m pro death penalty and I’m sure have some other righty views). I feel like I’m standing still and the middle keeps moving farther and farther to the right.

Which way do you lean?

Mondo Diablo Episode 303: Secrets of the PSYCHICS part 1

This week, our clips are from a BBC series. I decided to go against my instincts and assume you all are not fully aware and therefore bored with the events in this show. Enjoy The Amazing Randi, Uri Geller, a young Richard Dawkins and an orgasmic medium.

Where to Move?

In recent discussions with people, I've come to the reinforced decision that moving is a must. I currently live in Huntsville, Alabama, roughly the center of the state only a few miles south of Tennessee. I hate the cold. I like to be involved with my fellow Atheists, but I'm not afraid of starting my own groups- should the need arise. I REALLY hate the cold. And though California seems a logical choice, I know next to nothing about how to live inside of it. Plus, it's all the way across the… Continue
