Is an atheist someone who believe in Nothing? A Nihilist ?

People can say they believe in no Diety,

This often means a Rejection of a God of person

According to the Wikipedia only about 2.5 percent of the world population describe themselves as atheists. Another group of about 3 percent describe themselves as non theists.…

Heresy Quote

“Heresy is the eternal dawn, the morning star, the glittering herald of the day. … It is the perpetual New World, the unknown sea, toward which the brave all sail. It is the eternal horizon of progress. …Heresy is a cradle; orthodoxy, a coffin.”Robert Green Ingersoll

I love the smell of heresy in the mornin', it reminds me of................FREEDOM!; freedom to think, to read, to write, and to act

Should religion have a role be in U.S. foreign affairs?

There is breaking news from the Washington Post’s ‘On Faith’ section. Religious people think we need more religion in our foreign policy. This week they ask: Should U.S. foreign policy “get” religion?

There is little doubt that we live in a world ravaged by religious mythologies. Almost ever part of the globe features a religious conflict of some sort in which two or more religions are either on the brink of war or in open conflict with each other. Then there are the moral concerns… Continue

Answering the Question, Who/What is God?

This was my response to a request from Patheos, an interreligious website, asking people of faith and no faith to offer 100 words or less on Who/What is God?

Who/What is God?
One day we may discover that the universe
is shaped

Try this!! And report back... if you please!

Once upon a time... in a bar..... I had the pleasure of chatting with a stranger, a Christian, who asked me how I could possibly be an atheist? A recollection of our advantageous conversation is ~~~

Me: First, admit to me that among all the major religions of the…

Why Do Christians Bother to Proselytize?

It seems to me that Christians who proselytize are actually making a case against their position. Their claim is that their deity of choice is all-powerful and wants everyone to worship him but can’t seem to convince people on his own. God seems to need the Christian to proselytize.

SANEr

So tonight was SANE's (Student Atheists and Non-religious at Elon) first meeting as a student organization with provisional status! yippee!

Mike, our fearless leader, graduated a semester early at the end of winter term so we also had elections and now have a new President, a VP, Secretary, Treasurer and Webmaster. Sadly I am none of these things but I will not let this interfere with how much I give to the group. (Even if they get tired of me ;) ) Mike'll be hanging around…

Agnostics are Confused and Atheists are EVIL

01 PEACE.mp3

Why are Theists always so sure they are right? They feel it so strongly, they would kill in the name of their prophet, be HE Jesus, Yaweh or Mohammed.

Is not murder a sin? Yes, they'll say, but I am…

I Suppose I Had a Victory of Sorts

I'm afraid my IM discussions with my Christian coworker have gone about as far as they're likely to go. Last night, the Christian started making liberal use of entirely capitalized sentences and then turned openly conceited. It seems he's reached the end of his patience.

One of our primary points of contention, and the one we always came back to was whether or not thoughts arise from purely physical processes. I know little about neuroscience, so it was a difficult subject for me to… Continue

Can you imagine?

It seems difficult for some people to consider hypothetical situations. For religionists this difficulty is compounded by the fact that they hold dogmas that there are some ideas which, if even considered, will doom them in some way. This results in an inability for many to imagine a reality without a god.

During the course of debating with Christians I realized that many of them have probably never seriously considered the possibility that there could be no god, and are unable to…

The Abortion Issue

As many people in the greater atheist community know, Angie the Anti-Theist has just gotten an abortion. She has been blogging and tweeting her experiences during the process.

When I was younger, there was a short period of time in which I considered myself pro-life. But during my early college days I had more than one friend who faced the choice first hand. One of them really respected my opinion and asked me to for advice. At the time it really felt like I was making the choice for… Continue

We Have a Lot of Work to Do as Atheists

Bear with me now. This is not going to seem relevant for a while, but I do have a point.

The Melbourne Atheist Convention is just two weeks away and there is a flurry of dieting (not just women either!), clothes buying and hair fluffing going on in anticipation of meeting people we've only met on line and who, we fear, think we are a lot more attractive than we actually are! I have a feeling that Australia's spanx sales have gone through the…

Shutter Island: You invest 2.5 hours and get 3 minutes in return

U.S. Marshalls go to Shutter Island, a mental hospital for the

criminally insane, to find an escaped prisoner and stumble across a

bigger mystery. Brief, but frequent moments of shoddy writing and

cinematography damage the experience of what might have otherwise been

a memorable and insightful film.

United States Marshalls Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck

Aule (Mark Ruffalo) are dispatched to Shutter Island to investigate the

disappearance of… Continue

Surviving Highschool... as an Atheist

So, right now I'm in high school. I really like it there and I have plenty of friends. First off, I'd like to say that I don't feel oppressed nor am I looking for an 'atheist outlet'. I'd just like to bring to attention my state of mind. Which I believe I share with everyone else. Secondly, I don't have any sort of 'cool' coming out story, or anything that involves me running away. It was simply a move from a title, to a strong 'belief' per say.

A brief history is that both…

Micro-organisms multiplying

Science Doesn’t have the Answers

I was listening to Christian apologist Dinesh D'Souza recently. He made an interesting argument in which he claimed that science didn’t have the answers to three very important questions.

1. Where did we come from?
2. What is the point of our lives?
3. Where are we going?
