Hola, it's so nice to find other boricua, science minded atheists here. I think I finally lost my faith when I started getting really interested in neurobiology and cognition. And then PZ and Dawkins convinced me it would be a good idea to come out. So far it's all been good, especially since the Catholicism my mom had us practice was a very superstitious, high-stress one.
My abuela is also a surgeon in PR! She mostly deals with breast cancer and gastric surgery, and has been involved in el Colegio de Cirujanos. It was really cool because during my bachelor's (UPR-RP, chemistry) I got to accompany her to the conferences and see the clinical research talks. Which was what finally convinced me I wanted to go into neuropharm.-related research.
