Hey Seth, yep that was me! Hope you are doing well. This is a pretty cool web site so far.

As for the SCI TAV, I purposely want it to be very welcoming to both religious and non-religious people. I'm not "anti religion", just pro-science. I can understand the psychology of religion very well, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it "literally". Check out my most recent blog post for more info on that.

take care,
Josh

Single atheist in ATL area here, though you and I are incompatible.  We need an athiest singles group here, to go to museums and hiking, ect.  Most of the athiests I've met are over 50 and/or married.  Sometimes I go to Atlanta Freethought Society, though and athiest meetups.  Have only sen 2 maybes and one of them stuck his nose up to me...must be gay.

Greetings, seth! I'd like to invite you to a group where we talk about anything on our minds, even when we're lightly covered in bees. Hang With Friends :D

Heather McIntosh is single, lives inAtl. amnd is atheist.  She seems to be about yuor age.  There is a single super-smart woman named Claire who goes to Alt. Freethought Society in Smyrna.  Maybe we should have a singles only night.  I rarely am into the men who I meet, but maybe another man will have a friend, even online, who he knows is a good match for me.

I've met a few atheist mothers wanting to find a good match for their single sons.

On Certainty

Posted on December 15, 2008 at 9:53pm 0 Comments

Doubt is a very powerful force in our minds. Not knowing the future for certain, we constantly speculate and attempt to deduce what lays ahead in the paths of our collective lives using whatever methods we can find. Many instances of stress are essentially the physical manifestation of this doubt: Can I pay my bills? Am I loved? Am I doing this whole life thing right? If the world worked in a state of pure chaos, nothing acting like it had before, being able to predict possible future actions… Continue

More On The Love Bug

Posted on December 4, 2008 at 10:36am 2 Comments

Now, some may look at the theory of the Love Bug as pessimistic. Perhaps thinking that with the "magic" gone from how we bond with one another, the entire pursuit of love becomes a meaningless gesture. Obviously, I disagree. What I am trying to accomplish with this theory is to release some of the anxiety caused by what I see as an intense pressure to seek out a feeling that seems rather hard to find, and even harder still to keep. And these are not just social pressures. The chemicals that… Continue

On The Love Bug

From taotegene.blogspot.com:

Ten thousands years ago, our ancestors looked to the skies and saw magic lights dance across the blackness. They revered or feared these lights, and to explain them, they created stories and myths, which made them do things like carving hearts out in appeasement to a sun gods. The more they payed attention to these lights, the less they feared them, and began to use their movement to coordinate travel and to schedule the planting of crops. Now, as we have… Continue

On Ideas

From taotegene.blogspot.com:

Easily one of the most elegant and powerful memes I have encountered is that of the meme itself.

The term meme was coined by Richard Dawkins in The Selfish Gene, though the concept was around before that. Memetics is the theory that, like genes, our ideas and cultural concepts replicate and evolve. So, basically, a quantifiable unit of ideas. The metaphor is not entirely accurate, as there are minute chemical processes involved in both… Continue

Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film video

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:37pm 0 Comments

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film.  The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons.  He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

Do you support 'traditional' marriage, vot now ad

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:28pm 2 Comments

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"!  .

No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes.  'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands.  Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day.  however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more.  in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
