Coming to you from...everywhere in Africa! If You're an atheist, and you live in Africa, heck, if you have lived here, had some family here, Come and join us! We won't bite (hard...j/k!)!

Cape Town, South Africa. By way of India, Ethiopia and Kenya. And very excited to see that, out of our population of 44 million, there are a total of 78 South Africans on Atheist Nexus. :)
Hi Richard! I'm Kris - I host the Aussie/Kiwi group here on Nexus. I'm also the media and communications consultant for the forthcoming "Rise of Atheism" Global Atheist Convention to be held in Melbourne in March 2010. The Convention is being organized jointly by Atheist Alliance International and the Atheist Foundation of Australia.
I wonder if you could let your members know that tickets for the convention are now available online at the Convention website. We are expecting nearly 3,000 delegates, so this convention is going to be huge.
Confirmed speakers include: Richard Dawkins, AC Grayling, PZ Myers, Dan Barker, Peter Singer, Taslima Nasrin and many more.
Anything you can do to help us get the word out would be greatly appreciated.

Nice one Bru. You got my support. African non-anti-Atheists need to join hands.

Hi. I am also from South Africa. You may be interested to see my reply today under the discussion "No! We can't just get along" regarding South Africa - to agree with them or to dispute them. Whichever.
It's true. The people who are persecuted generally have to fight the standards. Not to mention that it's older women who perpetuate the practice by forcing it on younger women.
I'm hopeful about it.
I know the feeling well (no pun, either).
There are exceptions to most every rule, after all, which is why the refusal to acknowledge, much less investigate, such exceptions makes no sense.
I have never heard that distinction being made between ethics and morals. I have heard people use the phrase "your moral values." It seems to me, just based on how people use the words, that just the opposite is true. Morals seem like something more…
Thanks for the clarification, Jo. Now, wouldn't it be interesting if they introduced hate crime law that focuses on the source of hate, rather than the target?
Take the Tiller case, for example. Roeder subscribes to a belief system that foments hat…
Your honour, it's obvious that Freedom of Anonymity is a master of pulling information from his rectum.
While his source of information might be suitable for Oprah or the WWF, it's obviously useless for those that expect wild claims to be backed by…
If every time a future pedophile was born - a bright scarlet "F" was burned into his/her hands where all cannot help to see it. Then as they get older you'd be able to prevent any child abuse. 'nuff said. That - and anyone doing more than spanking a…
We (the USA) don't cry out against male circumcision because it's 'our' accepted brand of genital modification. We've only recently begun to examine it as a society, as far as I know. We’re still attached to it as a custom and don't see it as being…
I'm sadly not optimistic of the outcome. But hopeful that it will make a difference. Girls even in canada and US are routinely kidnapped. Their mothers/aunts/cousins will even hire and ship in by plane a doctor from a FGM-friendly country like syria…
