Interested in being an activist in Portland

What kinds of things are people involved in? I feel like setting up a booth like Lucy in Peanuts, where she gives advice, except mine will be a "Meet an Atheist" booth so people can meet me and see that I am not scary and am an asset to the community.

If there is any chance you're free this weekend, maybe we can talk?  If you're still interested!  Thanks, Steven

I have started, in a sense.  I shot video of Dale McGowan in 2009 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyBVJ5bR2g8) among others but did not like the static feel of the sit-down interview.  Too boring, despite the information and personalities involved.  So I decided to do what I'm doing now, with better equipment, too.  I have a family lined up (she's an actress, he's a cop, they have a four-year old), and others.

In your case, while it would be great to get you at work teaching, we don't have to.  Interacting with kids, shopping for supplies for your classes, talking to your friends who know you and think you're great at what you do, or something related would be great.  We can be creative.  If you wouldn't mind, put some thought into just how you would want to address those who think you're somehow less desirable as an educator just because of your non-belief.  Where are you located (I don't need an address, just approx.)?  Thanks again for your interest.  I'm really excited about this project and think it will work out well.

Great!  What I'd really like to do is get footage of your "typical day."  You're probably breaking for summer soon, right?  Off the cuff is fine.  If it helps, what I'm specifically looking for is a response from people such as yourself (teachers, social workers, those in "helping" professions) to the often published notion that atheists are, well, hated, by the general population.  Why should that be given what you're doing, for example?  Are you at all worried about people knowing at work, etc.?  Are you "out" as an atheist to family, others?

Welcome to Atheist Nexus and the wide wide world of common sense. We wish you well in your 'thought endeavours' about a Lucy atheist stall.
