Joseph P said… I know the name, but I've never seen anything by him.
Let's see. The first that come to mind ... George Carlin (duh), Ron White (not any of the other guys on Blue Collar Comedy, though), Lewis Black, Jeff Dunham (although he's obviously nothing like any of my material), Larry Miller ...
Hmmmmm. Robin Williams is interesting, if a bit schitzoid. Trying to think of others ...
Joseph P said… I haven't actually been there, but I know a few people from that state. :-P Heh.
I'm only a quarter Italian, so I can't really pull any kind of identity from any particular nationality. Too many bits and pieces. I've never actually been to Alaska. I haven't really been that far north, on the west coast. It seems like one heck of a step down. I like cities. Plus, my comedy would not go over well, I'm sure, so it would be a horrible place to base myself out of. The Raleigh area is kind of small for my tastes, after the Chicago area. I've been contemplating the Seattle/Tacoma area, though. Good culture.
The comedy is getting there. I have eight segments, 5 - 10 minutes long, and two fragmentary ones. I'm working on getting my delivery down, at the moment. There's a bit of relationship/sexual humor, at the beginning, followed by some religious/political stuff ... a bit of work/IT humor after that, a little general self-abuse ... a direct attack at Bristol Palin and the way the Abstinence-Only idiots are using her ...
Just ... stuff. I've mostly only performed it in fragments so far, though. Work is slowing me down a little, since my current schedule is very ... flexible ... unfortunately at the whim of the workload, rather than my own.
Jo,
The only advise that comes immediately to mind is to be yourself and don't do/say anything you are not comfortable with. What I mean is that I don't really make my non-beliefs known unless someone asks. However, I am ready for any individuals who come preaching or who have any questions.
I am also a supporter of the Freedom From Religion Foundation (excellent organization). In part, they use their membership dues and donations to help fund legal actions for the separation of church and state. They are also another great source of information on national and international religious "infringements". Give it a look if you haven't heard of them.
