The God Virus: How Religion Infects Our Lives and Culture at East Ballroom, Lory Student Center, CSU campus

November 18, 2010 from 4pm to 6pm
Can religion be considered an infection of the mind? All viruses have a strategy for infection. Some viruses use sexual transmission, others use a sneeze. Religious viruses employ similar strategies that enter through the ears at an early age, germinate in the mind and come out through the mouth to spread the religion. After a lifetime of involvement in the church Dr. Darrel Ray ultimately became a psychotherapist specializing in using hypnosis to help his clients. He slowly started to realize…See More

September 22, 2010 from 4pm to 6pm
“Opening my eyes to the real world, stripped of dogma, faith, and loyalty to tradition, I could finally see that there was no evidence for a god, no good argument for the existence of a god, and no good answers to the positive arguments against the existence of a god,” says Dan Barker.Barker is the co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a group that promotes the constitutional principle of the separation of church and state. "Jesus Camp" film screening at Clark A102; Colorado State University Campus

March 29, 2010 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
'Jesus Camp' speaks like an ice pick to the heart and mind. In the United States we are in the presence of a dangerous and powerful Evangelical Christian movement. Unless a person is steeped in such fundamentalism, I think viewers will come away from 'Jesus Camp' with an extreme sense of urgency for organization and action against this spreading virus. Maybe the film can shed light on the horrible indoctrination of these poor children. Some of them will escape their parent's religion, but too…See More

Jeric,
Hi. I was so disappointed I couldn't come down to the Fort for Genie Scott. I have been ridiculously sick. Like whatever it is has been kicking my ass for about a week and a half. It started the day I went on vacation to rainy California and I am STILL hurting. I usually don't get my butt kicked by your everyday average sickness, but this has really sucked. I was in bed Monday until noon. My husband had to stay home from work to take care of our 3 year old. How was it??? I saw her at the AAI conference in Burbank. Thought she was one of the best speakers actually.

Jeric, thanks for the message, that sounds fantastic. I would love to see Eugenie myself - am very familiar with her, the NCSE, Dover etc - have been following that story in detail for a few years now. I will alert the freethought group in COS as well!
