The following is the text of an email I just sent out. If you're interested in secular government - even if you don't live in West Virginia - you might be interested:
You may be aware that the Secular Coalition for America is working to set up a chapter in each state. Their stated purpose is to "bring together secular Americans in each state to influence government officials, legislation, and regulations." Having already succeeded in setting up chapters in several states, on…

This is a cross-post from the Think Atheist site from around a week ago
Just moved to West Virginia. Among the standard frustrations of moving, I chose the occasion to read the local paper (thankfully online), and ran across this gem in the Letters to the Editor section: Jesus is the reason for a Christmas…

Just posted this over at Think Atheist too:

Welcome to Atheist Nexus!
Nexus has many ways for members to be involved, make friends, learn, and express yourself. The welcome center is composed of Nexus volunteers, sort of like greeters at your favorite store.
Get to know people with similar interests by searching on Groups. Use the search box on the Groups page, or browse through the many pages of groups, to see what's there. There are Nexus groups for various states, cities, countries, ideas of personal expression, hobbies, and many other groups. Get to know people based on what you enjoy, or what you have in common with others.
Ongoing forum discussions are of more general interest than the groups. Switch toforum categories for a somewhat organized format.
To find local groups and make friends or chat, Meetup.com is a great place to locate groups or start one. (note, Meetup is not connected to AN). Join Meetup and search on a key word, such as atheist, atheism, skeptics, freethought, to see if there is a local group.
Support nexus by going to Amazon.com through the site (see the amazon box on the right). Buying from Amazon via the Nexus site does not increase your cost, but results in a small fee going to Nexus.
Terms of service helps you know the "rules". You can also find the TOS on the bottom right of the main screen.
The right sidebar shows recent posting activities and discussions by Nexus members. Click on "more" at the bottom for additional activities by members.
If you have general questions about how Nexus works, how to find what you want, or other questions, feel free to ask me or another volunteer member of the Welcome center!
Enjoy!
