Hi, sorry I just saw your posting on my wall. (Still getting used to this site!) I get a mixture of responses. I try to be friendly to people who I disagree with, and I do get some sympathy. The problem is their sympathy is only half of their feelings; the other half is their goal to convert me back.
So, what do atheists have in common, besides a lack of belief? We can't really rally around that. Are we politically liberal/progressive? I like the out campaign. Getting the closet atheists into the daylight sounds like fun. What do we think the steady state level of atheism could be? Would it be much higher than the current level in Europe? Will there always be a certain percentage of believers that will hang around?
"There are a TON of assumptions out there about atheists, mostly promulgated by believers and very often by believers who have NEVER MET an atheist! This is where speaking out continues to be so very important, and me 'at's off to you…"
