Ian replied to AtheistTech's discussion A simple question that is very perplexing... in the group Atheists who love Science!
"Not the motion of the plates themselves, but the formation of subduction zones and volcanoes.  The reason why plate tectonics was brought up was because subduction zones are a way of releasing carbon into the atmosphere, and that's what I…"

Ian replied to AtheistTech's discussion A simple question that is very perplexing... in the group Atheists who love Science!
"The reason that Venus has no plate tectonics is precisely because of the greenhouse effect.  Because all the water's been boiled off, the viscosity of the crust is far too low to allow subduction to happen.  So the two questions are…"

Ian replied to AtheistTech's discussion A simple question that is very perplexing... in the group Atheists who love Science!
"Not likely.  Venus' current state is likely the result of a runaway greenhouse effect caused by the boiling off of its oceans.  The Earth is not likely to suffer the same fate, even with the current climate change trend, because the…"

Ian replied to Ruth Anthony-Gardner's discussion Imagining the Tenth Dimension in the group Geek & Nerd Haven
"Yeah, I used to follow this guy's vlog.  He says a lot of interesting things, but unfortunately he doesn't have any more support than other such ideas.  He also doesn't seem to understand the science he uses quite as much as…"

Ian replied to Maruli Marulaki's discussion How To Define A Deity? in the group ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN
"I'm something of an igtheist, or ignostic.  I find the concept of a deity to be incredibly ill-defined, and that most believers in such a deity don't actually have a coherent idea of what precisely they believe.  Indeed, I know…"

Ian replied to Maruli Marulaki's discussion Atheism Is The Absence Of All Religions, Not Just Of Christianity in the group ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN
"Atheism isn't really the absence of religions, it's just the absence of any belief in God.  Buddhists and Raelians, for example, are examples of religious atheists, since they follow a religion, but don't believe in any kind of…"

"I have one.  I got my most recent one just a couple of days ago, but I've been programming with Arduino for quite some time.  Having prior experience with C++ really helped me with learning the Arduino language."

Ian commented on Claire Donnelly's group Gay Atheists: LGBTQ nontheists and friends
"As a Minnesotan, I am completely embarrassed.  Sure, marriage has always been used to refer to the union of man and woman.  So what?  Meanings of words change all the time.  Even if marriage had previously meant "hot…"
