My fiance and I are both atheists. Recently, he had a discussion at work about religion, and admitted he was an atheist. Most of his coworkers are okay with it, one is teasing him about it (they're friends; it's what they do), but the last one is being an absolute arsehole.

Yeah, I can see how the instant you catch yourself in that level of hypocrisy ... major introspection time.
I don't know that I can say there was anything that 'did it' for me. It was just everything about Christianity. I never exactly deconverted, because I don't think I was ever anything I would consider a believer.
Just ... I dunno ... all of the stories. None of the stories they told us in CCD sounded any more plausible than anything out of Grimm's Fairy Tales. I had the advantage of being buried in science books from long before kindergarten. My parents bought a ton of National Geographic kids' books about science and other educational subjects, for my brother who's two years older than me. That's the sort of thing I learned to read from.
Even when I was looking into Paganism, it was as an atheist. I was mostly just looking into the extraneous nonsense around the edges: aura sensing, the sort of reality-manipulation through intention of spells, energy manipulation ... stuff like that. I never took the idea of any of the Pagan gods any more seriously than I had the Christian one.
