OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.
I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

Welcome to A|N. It was interesting reading your profile. I've lived quite a number of places, mostly midwest and for most of the past 20 years, pacific northwest. I imagine Kansas is a bit like Indiana. When I lived there in the 80s, and being gay myself, I had a lot of fear due to local religiousness and bigots. Even so, most of my closest friendships formed there as well. Now, I don't have so many friends, but life is more secure.
I hope that you are able to explore and express yourself on A|N as well as home.
Best Wishes,
Daniel
Thanks for the friend request. We can all use friends! It's also helpful perusing the various groups, some are more active than others. They are growing quickly.
I know what you mean about aging parents. I regret that I'm so far away from mine, in Illinois. I couldn't live in their small town, and they always declined my offers to have them move here with me. Still, it would be nice to just drive over to their house and help out with chores or whatever.

We seek to understand the mysteries of the universe, and how life and humans and religion and everything began. There are a lot of good discussion topics there.
How is it going in Kansas? Probably cold since it;s early february.
What is your Master's in?
