Witches Are't Cute

Witches aren’t cute. They’re a reminder of everything that is wrong with ignorance and superstition. Primitive people demand scapegoats—someone to blame, someone to punish—for whatever goes wrong. It’s never their own fault. Witches are still persecuted in backward areas of the world today. It’s only a few hundred years since European and American society outgrew witch hunts. Our forbearers tortured and executed witches on a scale comparable to the holocaust.The treatment of witches is an…See More

Would ET Believe?

When ET finally arrives, he'll carry the fruits of an advanced civilization with him. What will he think of our primitive superstitions? How should we approach first contact with him? I've wrestled with this question in writing Dead Astronauts. Faced with first contact, the protagonists disagree. Air Force Colonel and true believer Rex Stone debates the issue with NASA scientist and nonbeliever Dawn Thomas. Here's how they start.“We’re there,” [Rex] cheered, “it’s time to go aboard.” “And do…See More

Hello Woodrow Wilson
What an excellent CV.
Welcome to this friendly meeting place with freethinkers who recognise that fictional gods and pervasive religions have always been used to deceive and control vulnerable superstitious people including defenceless children;
----and how tragic and inexcusable it is that women and minorities have been oppressed these last two thousand years and longer.

Terry Meaden (physicist; Oxford and AERE Harwell; academic; 60+; retired)
founder of the busy group "ORIGINS: Universe, Life, Earth, Humans, Religion, Evolution, Darwin..." with its 300 discussion topics.
We invite you to join us and 1780 others.
