"I totally agree Annie. I would often hear, "Well I love the sinner, I just hate the sin," but it's how you act towards someone that truly shows how you feel. Otherwise, like you said, it's just lip service."
"The authors of religioustolerance.org actually designed a small study investigating whether people could assess the will of God through prayer, specifically whether God approved or disapproved of same-sex marriage.
There were both conservative…"
So I came across something in the gospel doctrine manual for this year that I thought was interesting (they're teaching church history if you were curious). In lesson 6 titled: I Will Tell You in Your Mind and in Your Heart, by the Holy Ghost" this is what it actually says in one part:Explain that it is important for us to discern whether a revelation is truly from God. "I'm an ex-Mormon as well except I got out when I was still in my early 20's. There's no coverup like this but they do coverup a lot. Very few members of the LDS church know that Joseph Smith translated the B of M by…"
"I was a devout Mormon who only started questioning my beliefs when my brother came out as gay. After he shot himself on the steps of an LDS stake center one year later I REALLY started to question and it led me down the path to Atheism. …"
"I was raised Mormon, minored in Near Eastern Ancient Studies and took 2 years of Hebrew just so I could read the Hebrew Bible in it's original language (didn't quite work out but I still find the Hebrew beneficial). I started…"
Welcome, William. It never ceases to amaze me how many exchurch-leaders there are on A/N. If you really want to read an example of simplistic human origins of the Bible, read Good News for Modern Man. This did more than anything to push me over the edge in becoming an atheist.
After you've searched for topics of interest in "Groups" above and in the "Forums", don't forget to look at recent activity which hides along the right margin of the page all the way at the bottom.
On a personal note, I've developed an animated gif technique, sort of “pull quote marries slideshow”. Samples are scattered across various groups, but you can find them easily by going to my twitter account. Each tweet has a link (after the description and before the hashtags) to a visually rich example here at Atheist Nexus. If you like them, please follow me
