"Wonderfully written and expressed, William. Many thanks from a guy who has been the chattel of at least one if not more cats. Please give Indy a scritch-scritch for me."

I created this to be a sounding board to those who, rightly, felt dismissed or excluded by that post. However I welcome everyone (no matter your race, beliefs, sexual orientation, gender, etc.) to weigh in and reply.

Disclaimer: This is not an attempt to make an enemy of the author of the disputed post. This is also not a "hater" post against women or equal rights organizations. The… Continue

How a kitten and a kid showed me the value of life.

The following story is true and contains explicit depictions of raw emotion and a little anthropomorphizing.

Early this past spring my wife and daughter brought home a pair of kittens they'd rescued from My grandparents- in-law's farm. They were weeks old and very ill. This is significant because I have an aversion to all things feline and bringing cats into my home, frankly, pissed me off. They were sick and needed nursing and I was the only one able to spend much time doing so. Did I… Continue

No, thank you, William.

" Did it help you become a better person? Did it help you better understand how to be tenacious in the face of opposing views? Did it help you to formulate a useful method of creating an informed opinion of your own? I hope you walk away from this, after relieving your headache, understanding a little more about me and possibly yourselves. "
In fact, yes. I'm still on a learning curb as an aspiring medic and essentially scientist. Your approach was an eye-opener for me.

Your apology is very generous and very noble, but I assure you, unnecessary. I was not offended, William. We're all striving to gain greater clarity of vision. Most of us, if not all, have suffered in this life. We all bring to our perceptions and reactions certain bias, wanting to or not, myself included. I appreciate the discussion about a very sensitive and very important issue. Though the internet provides an amazing method for connecting people and exchanging ideas, its limitations create the potential for misunderstandings in communication. I'll continue to work on giving the benefit of the doubt when they arise.

No problem.
I've also pointed someone else to the film Dreamworlds. Look for the most recent, updated version, as it will be more relevant. Both films are extremely useful in understanding part of what feminism fights for.

Bill,

I was happy to see that you were able to take time to thoughtfully respond to the earlier posts. I am one with Judith on my thoughts about the matter.

I spend a little time in MIssouri, but a different corner of the state, and mostly driving through. My family's farm was in NE MO, and I drive past there when visiting my parents in western IL. Last week there, it was green and lush.
