The march for secularity was in lebanon, there are actually secular thinkers and people here in egypt but ofcourse they are all called infidels, as the society here mixes up secularity with Atheism.
Even if they think that their laws come from god himself, how can people not realize the obvious fact that those laws come from their god himself... its really weird, and i think its because of this that we as humans will take a very long time till we learn that we all just share one earth so lets share it. Every one just lives the way they like the land is for all so no need to fight over it.
Probably this will happen when the natural resources on earth are finished, hopefully..
yeah actually i am planning to move to canada.. but still have to apply..
yep when ever religious ppl start talking with you they normally think that you are just a lost soul that upon hearing a verse of the quran or bible will find their one true god in your heart.
Its easier not to talk about religion with a friend, but i think between a bf and gf it will have to come up, especially that islam forbids relationships between muslim men and non-monotheist women.
While for living an atheist in Egypt.. its not that bad actually it does frustrating at times as you can't express your opinion in certain cases.. the problem though is that conservative islam is on the rise.. and the problem with these people is that they want to force their way of life on everybody else. In summary its not that bad but we badly need a secular democratic system.
Does your family accept you without problems as an a non-believer? And is your brother an atheist yet.. Anglicans as i heard are of the open-minded christians..
I intentionally write it in lower case 'h' to piss religious ppl off.. ;)
I can imagine how frustrating the conversations must have been.. but you know how religious people are..
I discussed my atheism with two of my friends only, the first told me just lets not talk about it and the other we argued for sometime and thats it but we go on well together. While for muslims in general i did talk online a little bit.. but what ever you say they are not ready to change their mind, so the ones that talk, they do so to convince you with their opinion not to "LISTEN AND TALK".. sure you got what i mean. did u?
Everything for a Muslim is about what Allah approves of and says. But you know what if you really like the guy give it a try for sometime he might get enlightened.
Helo WiggidyGirl, and welcome to this friendly meeting place where we recognise--like you do as a freethinking atheist--that all the gods are phoney and religions are cunning frauds used to control people;
and how tragic and inexcusable it is that women and minorities have been oppressed these last two thousand years and more.
"Yes, not everyone thanks a deity for their survival and nobody should thank their god for a vicious tornado that wiped out so much of what people owned and even took lives, especially the lives of innocent children.

"Tony, I love that clip! "Wolf Gets Blitzed"...tee-hee.
Did anyone read the comments below the You Tube version? they were almost all like, "Yeah, thank the lard for sending a ghastly tornado to kill more than 50…"
"And then, just to confuse things, there's polymath, which is from the Greek poly = much and manthanein = to learn. So, someone who knows a lot. Or at least enough to know that you can get a second crop from that field! Sorry, couldn't…"
