Loren Miller commented on Whalehugger's blog post 'Prayers'
Asking friends for prayers sounds like a form of networking to me. If she wants to be practical about it (oh, heaven forefend!), tell her to join LinkedIn, build a profile, start building a network of former work associates and friends and see if…

Be honest with your friend and tell her you support her quest for employment. There is no need to reference gawd or any other magical solution. That said buckle down and try removing other magic words such as wish, luck, hope and faith from your…

For one, I would think she'd need to be a member of a union to do that type of work wouldn't she? I always thought working with electrical equipment, projectors, cameras and so on were involved with one or more unions. Not that she's…

I'm living in Fort Mill and unfortunately, I am rather on the uneasy side of saying I'm an atheist. I don't hide it if asked, but I don't go talking about it either. Several of the people I worked with (just transferred to a new…

I'd like a link too, Jennifer. I found your photography site but not your friend site.

I'd recommend that wherever the meet up is decided to be that it be something relatively easy to find. Yes, we do have google maps to help with the problem, but it's much easier for those not from the area to find. Something off an…

Prayers

Posted on January 9, 2009 at 3:08pm 6 Comments

One of my best friends is in a dire financial situation and needs a full time job (long story - suffice it to say, she's not kidding). She sent an email out to her closest friends and asked for us to pray that God sends her that job she so desperately needs. I wanted so badly to tell her that I wouldn't pray for her. I would definitely wish her well and always have, but I won't pray. If and when she gets a job, it'll be because she made it happen.

Yes, I wanted to tell her this, but… Continue

The past - better or worse?

Posted on January 7, 2009 at 3:26pm 2 Comments

While waiting for work to come through the system today, I got to thinking about times past and times present. Has education and the world around us (particularly in the US) changed compared to when I was young back in the 60's and 70's? I remember the Civil Rights Movement and putting a man on the moon, but I don't remember hearing an uproar from Evangelicals over creationism and the diluting of the study of the sciences with superstitious garbage. I'll read Pharyngula's blog and discover that… Continue

A comfortable fit

Posted on January 5, 2009 at 2:47pm 3 Comments

Compared to some of the blogs and comments on AN and in other places across the internet, I'm a relatively newbie of a free thinker. I'm 53 years old and have only been free of religion for almost 3 years. I won't go into detail of my journey here as it's nothing monumental or fantastic. Let's just say that my hubby got me to thinking along those lines (we're both atheists now) and George Bush sealed the deal. Huh. Never thought I'd thank Georgie for anything...

I tried going back to… Continue

In with the new

Posted on December 31, 2008 at 3:29pm 1 Comment

First time post here, and with 2009 within hours of this part of the country, figured I'd post my resolutions. I won't get into too much detail on the first couple. Lose weight, eat healthier, and so on - that's a given any more. The other resolutions include working more on my stitching and taking better care of my house. I admit it, neither my hubby or I are housekeepers, so this is a resolution for me.

The major resolution, however, is being true to myself. I've admitted to… Continue

Welcome to Atheist Nexus and the world of commonsense.

What a contrast to the "god-did-it" dogma of religious people.
No dogma, no doctrines, just rational freethinking about people, the world, its meanings and its origins.

That's OK Arnab. Much quicker than the second coming of Christ. Wouldn't want to be hanging by the balls waiting for that to happen.
