"How's that defrag working, Glen? Turtle Poser: Heh. I can see doing your version, too... and for your reasons. David Prentice: It does seem like the song pumps irony."

"That kind of flies in the face of 'we are the light of the world' too doesn't it, since any overt sign of one's meekness was considered self promotion and would earn you eternal damnation lol"

David Prentice commented on Turtle Poser's blog post Christian Humility in a Catholic Song
"From what I've read, the current religious take on 'meek and humble' is actually a romanticised version, according (no surprise here) to our modern culture. Originally, it seems, Jesus actually meant that if you retaliate to an attack…"

When is Lying not a Sin? The House Church Phenomena - Excuse my rant

A few months ago, some acquaintances who are Missouri Synod Lutherans bore false witness when they claimed to belong to a new breakaway storefront House church that went rogue from the Missouri Synod Lutherans (LCMS). Apparently, there was a clear disagreement, hence the split. Given my lack of trust in Christians, after all they have the 10 commandments so they can break them, I did a little research. Turns out the pastor of this breakaway house church is still a pastor in good-standing with…See More

Christian Humility in a Catholic Song

Crazy me. Though atheist I may be, I like to sing Catholic songs on the weekend. It drives my family crazy because they suck. But that's kinda why I like them so much! I remember back in the day when we were finally allowed to sing the Protestant hymn "Amazing Grace" we shouted a great "Hallelujah." Actually it was sort of a whispered, "It's about time."

Anyhoo.

Any former Catholics remember the song "We are the Light of the World" by Jean Greif ? (I have to give the person… Continue

Introduction - From kinda sorta believing to becoming an Atheist

I'm a newly hatched atheist. Actually, I've probably been an atheist for over 25 years but didn't define myself as such because I felt that "atheism" was too strong a word for my lack of belief. Weird? I redefined myself as an atheist because my young daughter (a "hard" atheist) finally convinced me that believing in a "concept" of God is not the same that actually believing God exists. Okay then, I'm an atheist. How could a youngster convince an experienced, educated adult? Well, I was raised… Continue
