Religion should never have been an issue. As AceLucky said, it was negligent homicide.

It's an interesting ruling when you consider the judge took religion into account. What would his ruling be for a the murder of an OB/GYN who performed abortion procedures if the perpetrator was "well-meaning" and thought he was saving lives?

I agree with Tear and Sonny. These nutjobs are unfit parents who comitted murder and their asses should be in jail.

This case was negligent homicide. The religious nature of the case should have been irrelevant. That's how others learn; they get treated according to the law without preferential treatment. No one, and no group, should be above the law. Should t...

They did what they really believed was right. A better punishment, IMO, would be to sentence them to some science and history classes. That would serve a higher purpose than just thinking about their little girl for a month.

They should be starved to death. This pisses me off. They murdered a little girl! And if you can get away with that then you can get away with anything.

I agree with John. I think that this judge was very good about it. If he made the sentence too harsh, then the religious community would have had an uproar of horrible "just" thinking. I would have liked to see this addition of "think about what ...

It's scary the judge wants them to continue their delusion in their useless, imaginary overlord. The punishment also sends out the wrong message to other faith-healing, criminally negligent parents.

Tough call on sentencing. I have mixed feelings. What is really best? Assuming the parents are (at least to some extent) brainwashed by this Jesus cult, they didn't believe they were harming their daughter. They really thought they were right. Th...

Calling all freelance writers

In case you haven't heard by now, the Examiner.com staff is looking to add more writers to its site.

If you are a writer and are interested in becoming a freelance writer with Examiner, they are now looking for writers to write on a national level as well as on the local level. They have a great number of topics you can choose from (doesn't have to be atheism). Also, if you feel you want to write about somethig that isn't listed, you can suggest a new topic (that's how I got the atheism gig - s… Continue

Faith healing proponent parents sentenced for death of daughter

Dale and Leilani Neumann of Wausau, Wisconsin could have saved their daughter. But they chose to rely on God rather than take their daughter to the doctor. Because they imposed their religious beliefs on their 11-year-old daughter, the young girl died. Yes, the parents have a right to believe as they like, but what about the rights of their daughter? Didn't she have a right to live?

The couple was sentenced yesterday for their part in their daughter's death. They received a sentence of one mont… Continue

Denver school to include irreligion in its 'Assets' after settling lawsuit with FFRF

The national Freedom From Religion Foundation has settled a federal lawsuit against the Cherry Creek School District in Denver, Colo., over a policy that urged children to spend an hour a week at a religious institution. The District and the Foundation agreed upon wording to include encouragement to children to spend an hour a week in various civic or educational pursuits, including not only religious but irreligious.… Continue

Atheists victorious - Judge orders 'Almighty God' in Kentucky unconstitutional

When American Atheists (AA) realized that the Kentucky office of Homeland Security had '"God" in its law, it sprang to action. Along with 10 other plaintiffs, AA filed suit to get the reference to God removed from the law.

According to AA, the "2006 law... blatantly mixes church and state, in defiance of the US Constitution." The law they speak of requires that the executive director of Kentucky's Homeland Security shall "[p]ublicize the findings of the General Assembly stressing the dependence… Continue

New company to rescue left-behind pets after the Rapture

A new company has started up - a company that will rescue and care for pets once their owners are Raptured away. Christians, take note - this is no joke. Just as it says on the official Eternal Earth-Bound Pets, USA Web site, this is serious.

Have you ever wondered who will care for your pets once you are joined with your maker in Heaven? Well, now you can put your mind at ease. For a small fee, you can rest easy knowing that the fine folks at Eternal Earth-Bound Pets will rescue and care for y… Continue

Trina, if you listen to the video again it might be clearer to what Yasser is saying. Yasser George is an exMuslim originally from Saudi Arabia.

This is what Yasser told me about why he made the video:
"the main purpose of the video is to let muslims know that we were actually muslims, because muslims still believe that we are an israelis spies sent by the mosad to mislead them."

As you can hear he refers to Mecca as "one of the worst places of all" and said that he is ready to fight for the Atheists rights. He said in the video that "if anyone here knew that I am an Atheist or an ExMuslim I would definitely be executed. It's a huge crime here. You cannot pass that area if you were not a Muslim". He also says: "I really encourage other Atheist exMuslims to prove their points and have the guts to come here and let others know that they were exMuslims one day."

Hi Trina,

I have two videos of Atheism in Saudi Arabia. I'm trying to promote them, but I haven't been getting enough responses from it. Here are the two videos:

Hi Trina,
