Well, at least you don't have that kind of religious nonsense going on at home, then.  I know several people who are in your sort of situation, having to pretend for the grandparents.

One of my friends has a grandmother who's an old-school, southern-bell from Georgia.  My friend and all of her sisters are atheists (her parents are woo-woo, spiritualist hippies who didn't brainwash their children into religion, so they all turned out atheistic), and the grandmother doesn't know that.  The grandmother may suspect, but no one ever talks about it.  Her grandmother is rich, so there's an incentive to keep the peace.

Heh, and I sound cynical saying that last bit, but she really is a nice old lady.  She's very non-judgmental and easygoing, for a person who's otherwise quite conservative and from another social period.  Some fundies are far more ballistic and unreasonable.  I wouldn't care how much money was involved, if I had to deal with someone like that in order to get it.

My whole point is that there are just certain things that are not spoken about when her grandmother is around, which is kind of difficult for me, since I'm usually a very blunt, unfiltered person.

True, that you'll find plenty of people who won't try to judge you for not believing.  You just have to pick and choose a bit, in terms of where you find your friends.  The problem is when you want someone who is actually on the same page with you, rather than just being non-judgmental.  It's hard to have serious philosophical discussions with people who have a habit of falling back to "God dunnit," when they don't know the answer.

Well, I guess that's one function that this website will provide for you, huh?

Wow, Tennessee, yeah.  You're a bit too far outside of Memphis to get the advantages of being near a large city ... and anyway, you're too young to get around easily on your own, yet.  For that matter, Memphis isn't particularly rational and liberal, as far as big cities go, is it?

How bad is your family?  Are your parents particularly religious, that you have to deal with a lot of nonsense from them?

The Rednecks are coming, the Rednecks are coming

Actually, the rednecks are here and everywhere. Let me say, I'm not a big fan of these people. That's putting it mildly. Need I describe them? You know who I mean. This seems to be the time of year when they come out of the woodwork. Here in Indiana, as the weather gets nice, the motorcyclists are out in full force. I hate the noise cycles make. Then there's the Indianapolis 500 fans, the majority of which are rednecks. Interview them or a typical Pacer fan (big news as they face the Miami…See More
