Tom Carpenter replied to JohnFrost's discussion Buddhism Demystified in the group Atheist Buddhists
"Thanks John - good post! I look forward to reading all of your blog - I just added it to my favorites. My wife is a Buddhist, and I have pretty much reconciled my beliefs to hers by looking at Buddhism much as you have. She tends to take the things…"

Atheist Buddhists

A place for those who consider themselves Atheist Buddhists, or those who simply don't see this as a contradiction in terms.

"Ah-HA - you're on to something (sorry Mykeru we're off on a tangent here - but important). You hit on something with your wife that I think is likely true for the vast majority of Christians. I think most of them have doubts - and I…"

"Right - to both Giselle and Skeptic. But Skeptic, I would not feel obligated to educate someone on what is real versus nonexistent, if they don't want to hear it. People like Giselle - and my wife - still feel there is something out there and…"

Tom Carpenter replied to Mykeru's discussion Religion vs. Spirituality (Redux)
"Is it really necessary to have one narrow definition of any word? Atheist? Spiritual? Lots of meanings. I don't want to see multiple sects of atheists out there arguing with each other over terms. Starts to sound like dogma. (Oops, not you…"

About Me:
Retired, life-long "naturalist-atheist," also now a "buddhist-atheist" (love the meditation and kindness-compassion philosophy but reject the deities and supernatural aspects such as reincarnation).

Greetings!

Hi All,

I have been reading lots of atheist blogs for a long time, and I have many thoughts of my own to share. I don't have any atheist friends near by, so I'd like to develop some e-mail pen-pals &/or dabble in blogs.

Any one out there in or near Eugene, OR?

Thanks!

Yes, I grew up in Minnesota. In fact I just got back from a family reunion in Wisconsin and Minnesota which included lunch in St. Cloud on Thursday. It has changed so much since I graduated that I barely recognized anything. I lived in Eugene for a couple of years, but have now been in the Newport/Waldport area for almost 25 years.

Did you grow up in Minnesota?

Thank you for the welcome, Tom. I'm a fairly new transplant to Oregon. I've been here with the pups and my guy since late '06, but I love it. It's milder than my home state of New Hampshire but it's not as smoggy and monotonous as LA (where we lived for 5 years). And of course, I love that Oregon is SO dog friendly.

And, Thea is pretty incredulous

This is what she thinks of faith healing
