Our Mission: To mobilize secular volunteers to contribute toward improving their communities, to coordinate the charitable efforts of non-theists, and to increase awareness and acceptance of the worldview, contributions, and values of non-theists.
The Houston Church of Freethought is an extension of the concept developed in Dallas by the North Texas Church of Freethought. The Church of Freethought was conceived as an alternative to the conventional faith-based religious organizations.
We are a rational approach to religion, offering atheists, agnostics, humanists, and freethinkers all the social, emotional and inspirational benefits of traditional faith-based churches, but without appealing to tradition or superstition.
Foundation Beyond Belief is a charitable and educational foundation created to focus, encourage and demonstrate humanistic generosity and to support nontheistic parent education.
Petite, brown-haired, blue eyed, middle aged atheist chick living in conservative Houston, TX.
I am a member of the Houston Church of Freethought and attend Humanists of Houston meetings. The friendships I have found there have been wonderful and it's a comfort to know there are others like me in this sea of conservationism.
Could you tell me about the Houston Freethought Church? Moved here from Dallas in February, and the only fun I've been having is going back to Dallas on weekends.
Tina, thanks for the comments on my picture page. I was able to meet Julia Sweeney (she was wonderful), Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens at AAI last year. I also sat about twenty feet away from Ayaan Hirsi Ali while she spoke, with the bomb sniffing dog and her huge bodyguard standing right next to me. For me it was like being at a rock concert. I was star struck.
Are your pics are from Cabo San Lucas? I'm going there this winter and the swimming with the dolphins looks fantastic. If you get back to the Wichita area send me an e-mail. We could get together. -Peg
Requested to add you as a friend. I am from Wichita, KS and noticed you have relatives in Kansas. Always happy to see another freethinker visit the area. I'm all alone! (Not really)
"Free-thinker" was a popular term in the 19th century amongst atheists and I see no reason why it shouldn't be re-activated. It captures the Enlightenment ideals of thinking and investigation without fear or prejudice. For the British amongst us Cha…
I think this ignores one simple and demonstrable fact: Beginning with the 17th century enlightenment, there has been a gradual movement away from religious faith. An increase in knowledge about nature has offered a competing theory about life's orig…
The other day I was talking to an old friend and she was telling me "you know Diaddy when rapture comes, dont you want your kids to go to heaven?' My son (who is 9) came out of the room and told her "woman dont you know I dont believe in god? dont w…
I was having lunch today with a bunch of my coworkers, and the topic drifted into the subject of religion (I promise, I didn't do it). The group consisted of three agnostics (including myself), a Catholic, a liberal Christian, and my boss, who is a…
This group will do more than just pick apart biblical errors and contradictions. Let's closely examine the Bible and Qur'an. Nothing is sacred; every prophecy, proverb, and parable deserves examination and critique.
Hi everyone,I grew up in a Christian home, and for 30 years I was quite dedicated to it. A couple of years ago, I think it was in 2004 or 2005, I lost all faith in the religion. So here I am. Atheist since 5 years, and I can see any reason why ever…
This sounds like many doable ideas and I don't mean to be a killjoy but.....the local atheist group I belonged to for several yrs managed to get tax exempt status so donations could be deductable and that took them almost a yr. Gov't agencied weren'…
