Honestly, I have been spending too much time on facebook, and only recently have I started seriously reading again. I find it easier to spend time reading with actual books than with that kindle thing, and I am almost glad I lost it last week. I've gotten through two books since then.
Work is okay. It is tiring being on my feet all day, but at least I am not just sitting around the house all day. It was nice, too, getting disability for the whole time I was out. I am getting to the…

Well, it's been a few months. I never have been good with journals or blogs.
Still, I suppose I should make some sort of attempt at justifying my presence here, so I will write something, but the short version. In October, I got sick with a staph infection that necessitated the replacement of my mechanical aortic valve, among other things. I spent more than two months in a hospital far away from family and friends, one of them completely sedated. Now I am stuck at a…

Two of my sisters, including she of the Salt Lamp, went on a retreat to a convent in a resort town nearby. One of the two is a true believer - she once told me that she believed in revelation - and the other is Salt Lamp (Sally, for short.)
Returning from her retreat, Sally showed me some books she bought at the convent gift shop. (Yes, that is what I said.) She mentioned that some of them are books that she might use to give at christmas time, and she also mentioned that she was…

I am temporarily staying in the home of my sister and brother in law, and I don't suppose I really need to tell anyone that I am most unhappy about it.
There was a time in my life when the presence, at bedside, of this thing called a "salt lamp" would have elicited no more than a simple chuckle and maybe some gentle mockery. I can't say where she got the thing or how much money she wasted on it, but the fact that she left a copy of the marketing material there for me to read indicates…

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film. The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons. He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"! .
No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes. 'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands. Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day. however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more. in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.
I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).
THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
