The Devian replied to Dr. Terence Meaden's discussion Pope Francis confesses that Evolution and the Big Bang theory are right: God isn't 'a magician with a magic wand' in the group ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN
"'God of the Gaps', it isn't that the theories require their god, but gods requires the gaps in the theories."

The Devian replied to Rick Springfield's discussion Scientific Adam and Eve in the group ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN
"I argue that she didn't have a name, but we had eggs long before chickens. ;) Originally things were asexual, but nature found that there was not enough randomness there, and for more complicated life, that randomness was needed, and is why we…"

The Devian replied to scott martins's discussion IS EVERYBODY 100% POSITIVE THERE IS NO GOD?
"I agree, it could have been that I was designating another pattern, like .999999699999969999996 or whatever, that is exactly part of my point. Who are you to say what I meant by my use of that '.999'? I do understand what you two are…"

"One is giving, and one is receiving... Although, in another moment or so, the reverse could be true... Maybe if that boy was licking the 'savior's purple behind and not standing on his injured hands, he might not be in jail! It's all…"

The Devian replied to scott martins's discussion IS EVERYBODY 100% POSITIVE THERE IS NO GOD?
"No, agnostic means you believe in something being out there, just not sure what it is, you haven't picked yet. I am just saying that it does us no service to say that something that cannot be proven, a negative without qualifiers, is…"

The Devian replied to John Jubinsky's discussion Activating a Gene Could Significantly Slow Aging in the group ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN

The Devian replied to John Jubinsky's discussion Activating a Gene Could Significantly Slow Aging in the group ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN
"I lean more toward sterilizing, an ounce of prevention and all that. But if it comes to that, it might be the nice thing to do."

The Devian replied to scott martins's discussion IS EVERYBODY 100% POSITIVE THERE IS NO GOD?
"Yes, I get what you are saying, even if the purple boxes didn't explain much, simple concept, but it is a matter of semantics, and technicalities. Because while that is true, there is also also the difference of 0.000...1, you will never find…"

The Devian replied to John Jubinsky's discussion Activating a Gene Could Significantly Slow Aging in the group ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN
"Ah then yes, then there is that, but I wouldn't call it 'dropping like a rock', and until the population is actually going down, by a lot, we are still in deep, deep trouble. It's still growing at an exponential rate, it's…"

The Devian replied to scott martins's discussion IS EVERYBODY 100% POSITIVE THERE IS NO GOD?
"Exactly, as for the number, it just depends on how exact you wish to be, and what you are representing by the '...'. If you mean the irrational number, with an infinite .999's, then it's basically 100, but not quite. effectively,…"

The Devian replied to scott martins's discussion IS EVERYBODY 100% POSITIVE THERE IS NO GOD?
"Well, 99.99999999999...% I can't, in all honesty, say 100% on any topic. But no, as fun as supernatural things are in fiction, that is the only place I believe they exist, but I am always open to new evidence. On the other hand, every religion…"

The Devian replied to John Jubinsky's discussion Activating a Gene Could Significantly Slow Aging in the group ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN
"Only in a few places, most of the world is still increasing in population, including here, and it is mostly the less educated who are having them. It has slowed some, but it is still going up by a lot. One birth every eight seconds, and one death…"

The Devian replied to John Jubinsky's discussion Activating a Gene Could Significantly Slow Aging in the group ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN

The Devian replied to Rick Springfield's discussion Scientific Adam and Eve in the group ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN
"Well, even if you count that as a 'gender swap', it doesn't change anything for the argument, for two reasons that I can think of off the top of my head. 1) They will just say that "Adam" still came first, even if he were…"

The Devian commented on Ivy's group Atheist Humor

"Well, it's not so much religion itself, as there are a lot of other topics that can work people into that same fervor (politics for example, though that is almost the same thing in many people's case). If you challenge anyone's…"

I am a life long atheist. I have been arguing against religion since my grandmother started to push it on me at the age of three, when I had to explain that magic wasn't real.

Devan, welcome to Atheist Nexus, a group of freethinking people who walk through the minefields of bigotry as we change a fundamental way of thinking. With your lifelong experience of arguing against religion, you will have a lot to say in our discussions, I am sure. This is a great place to express your ideas. There are differences of opinions, of course, and that is why this is such a rich and fertile site.
