hallo! good question. the salt ref actually refers to one of the alien monsters that Capt Kirk & crew encountered during the original Star Trek television series. the show is so old now that the ref has become obscure, however my own odd addiction to salt is the real basis for it. aside from that, more than one person who knows me very well accuses me of being an alien. funny!
