I love SPSU. I've had good experiences with most of the professors, ironically the only faculty I've had problems with are in the honor's program- although they have many winners as well. SPSU is probably underrated as far as its quality as an engineering school, but going there for english is a bit of a stretch. I think I'd die if I was going to a humanities school though... who knows. I prefer the culture of technology and science to literature; even though I'm always talking philosophy and literature XD. The school is going through major growth right now, and if they play their cards right, they're probably finally going to become recognized as being the great school they are. The only sucky thing about them is some of their administrative procedures- we have a huge parking/ticketing problem and housing is an asshole. Overall, I put up with that because its worth it (plus I don't drive so...). We have a pretty decent Secular Freethinkers group as well- all thanks to yours truly (I never miss a chance to brag).

But thats awesome! Hey, if you've got transhumanist-cognitive psychology- philosophy leanings- you might like Overcoming Bias. I've been there for a year... there is a lot of in-words and memes in the group, but they have a useful wiki to solve that (and they usually link to relevant posts).

Deleted other comment because I noticed the link to your personal website. I like your technique. My favorite of yours is "Being Human", although my appreciation is not without internal conflict. In Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra, he talks about "pregnancy" as the state of man who has an idea or vision. That really resonated with me, and most of the time I think of the pregnancy of mankind as really elevated and beautiful, like our greatest inventions and the like. In your piece, I believe that's a mushroom cloud in the womb? My more pessimistic side can't help but agree. I just can't help but hope-hope-hope that destruction isn't being human.
Hm. But if it is just the power of invention, the atom bomb being obviously powerful... heck, I could really go with that. The negative connotations of the weapon come to mind very quickly, but there are other ways of looking at it I suppose. I don't do it justice just talking about it really, there's a bit more going on. What were you thinking when you made it?

Once I get my major, I'm going to grad school. I want to be a professor. I also want to be involved in improving the public understanding of science. Not sure how I plan to do that, but a communications education should help.

lol, yeah, I go to college there, though I went to high school in my home county. They taught evolution in my public school- but every teacher I had for biology was always a creationist! I was a creationist too actually... so it isn't terribly surprising that nearby Cobb county came out against it.

I noticed you are fond of Bertrand Russell. I actually have never read any of his work... but am still a fan. That's why I'm insanely excited about Logicomix! Have you heard about it?
