Atheism and the Political Spectrum

It amuses me that the far right equates atheism with the poltical left. Yet, I know a lot of politically moderate and conservative people who are also non-theists as well. I surmise that part of this…Continue

Origin of Draping Garland on Christmas Trees?

Can anyone confirm or deny this notion I have about the tradition of placing garland around trees around Christmas and Yule? Somewhere, somehow I picked up this idea that in pre-Christian Europe the entrails of one’s vanquished enemies where draped over trees. I can’t remember how I came across this idea, but in the years following I have not been able to find any reference to it. Is this just a product of my morose imagination or is there some truth? Is there a source out there?See More

The most ridiculous and pendantic missinterpretation of facts claiming proof that the gospels were all written well before 60 - 70 CE. Unbelievable nonsense.

Pastor Terry Jones: This Dove Doesn't Believe in Extending Olive Branches

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 4:30pm 0 Comments

Hell must be frozen solid today. I find my self agreeing with the Vatican that the Dove Outreach Center of Florida’s plan to burn the Koran is “outrageous and a grave gesture.” Secretary of State Hilary Clinton also responded by saying it would be a “disgraceful and disrespectful act.” No disagreements there either. But, then fanatics and extremists don’t care about being respectful.

The irony is that the Dove Outreach Center is using the Christian symbol of peace – the dove – and… Continue

How to Free A Terrorized Mind

Posted on August 9, 2010 at 4:38pm 2 Comments

Superstitions terrorize the mind. Just like obsessive compulsive disorders they can override simple common sense by creating a great deal of unnecessary anxiety. The afflicted person may understand, in theory, that there is a better way to live, but the compulsion to believe is so great that they cannot simply just discard them like a soiled tee shirt.

The treatment is simple despite being rigorous. All we must do is apply a firm and consistent use of reason and plain, old fashioned… Continue

Hello Andrew. Welcome to this friendly meeting place with freethinkers who recognise that gods and religions are deceptions used to control vulnerable superstitious people, including defenceless children; and how tragic and inexcusable it is that women and minorities have been oppressed these last two thousand years and even longer.
