About Me

i am an indo-canadian living in toronto. i immigrated to this vast and beautiful county on a very cold winter day, 12 years ago, after meandering through norway and australia, for 8 years.

although my academic background is in information technology, i had a mid-flight paradigm shift and switched to telecommunications. i have been with a tier-1 telecom carrier, for a dozen years. of that, 10 years have been spent in managing a team of engineers. we do geeky and leading edge tech stuff.

i am the eldest of the two kids that my parents spawned ;-) born in calcutta, india, i was fortunate to be at the epicentre of modern education, science, arts, literature, culture and politics.

like most people, it's a complex thing to describe me. i am an exceedingly imaginative, cosmopolitan, free thinker who is bit of an "acquired taste". i think i am an average, adaptive, friendly, laid-back dude, who is also an eclectic amalgamation of many seemingly paradoxical things.

i like to think of myself as an interesting conversationalist. my humour would probably best be described as very wry and sarcastic. just like a joe-schmoe bengali, i am an armchair-cynic-politician and like revolutionizing the world over a cuppa & talk about a gambit of stuff, be it prosaic or intricate or just about mundane daily monotony.

godless, infidel, irreligious, nonbeliever, pagan, skeptic, free thinker, heathen, heretic, blasphemous, faithless, iconoclastic, impious, irreverent, sacrilegious, sinful, unbelieving, undevout, unholy..i am :) being an atheist i eschew religious mumbo-jumbo. however, i have all the time in the world if you wish to pontificate science or art or food or business etc. i try not to be a misanthrope and live by atheist guidelines:
★reason not superstition ★ethics not dogma ★respect not worship ★courage not fear ★fact not myth ★morality not religion ★clarity not delusion ★good not god ★skeptic not cynic ★rationality not ideology

i think religions are mired in hypocrisy, ignorance, psychological imbalances and stymie people's ideas and thought processes and should be eradicated. i am opposed to mediocre books that stipulate absolute doctrinal orthodoxy such as everything not forbidden is compulsory and everything not compulsory is forbidden. it is unfortunate that there is a grotesque mismatch between the intelligentsia and the electorate of several faith based countries.

free minds, free markets, a free and diverse society where no one is the first to harm. i believe in legitimacy of usage of force for self-defense. i am pro capital punishment. i strongly support legalization of gambling & prostitution. i am a champion for gay rights, recognition of same-sex marriage and abortion. i think we should quarantine the government out of people's bedrooms and have them mollycoddle health care, education, insurance, safety and food supply instead.

it is what it is..and i am an incorrigible contrarian, so trying to alter me is futile :)

Try joining groups like the busy discussion group ORIGINS (Origins: Universe, Life, Humans, Evolution, Religion..... ).

I have been running a long discussion (over 50 posts) there about being "Proud to be Atheist" because we all should be,
seeing that atheists and humanists hold the intellectual high ground over the nonsense of the irrational, superstitious god believers.

Check out the groups - A|N is big enough that the main way to make friends is through the smaller groups. The more that you have to say, the more interesting it becomes.
