I can't say I had any particular moment of deconversion, having lost my faith gradually in many small stages. The first great blow to my beliefs came from reading the bible. Long before Christopher Hitchens wrote "The God Delusion", I observed that…
I agree. I never told my parents about that until recently. They were livid. I can now imagine they would have caused a serious row about. Now that I'm a parent I feel the same way.
I ask myself the same question everyday. I am on one other networking site, I joined AN only a few days ago because this other site is run by bigots, I had so many of my posts deleted for simply being pro choice or anti religious violence, it's abso…
I know I'm resurrecting an older thread, but my story is much like Renee's. I just never really believed. I think I lack the faith gene. I went through the motions, and as I got older, tried to get out of going to church, but my dad wouldn't let me.…
3rd grade Catholic School. Priest was talking to us about the 10 commandments. I said I couldn't love anyone more than I loved my Mommy & Daddy. He said I would go to hell. Because God requires us love no one above him. I'm serious..I said "Bullshit…
There are many things that I believe in, but a god is not one of them. I feel that everyone is entitled to their opinion and that other people should not force their beliefs onto me!

Just got back from Korea and China. In those 2 countries and Japan, according to my very unscientific survey which I've been doing over the years - by asking as many Asians as possible first; "Do you have a religion?" second; "Do you go to church?" and third; "Do you believe in God?" The winning answers by far are: 1) Taoism or Budhism. 2) weddings and funerals 3) No.
I've asked a lot of them, and they seem to be more sensible than Americans and don't appear to have any social pressure to answer otherwise as I suspect happens in the US. cheers - Michael
Hi, Sophia. If you think the Jesus Camp movie is scary... the actual camp is not all that far from my home. I live in Kansas City, Missouri and some of those people might be my neighbors. Now thats frightening! Sometimes I worry about that so much I can't sleep at night :-) Happily, believe it or not, there are quite a few sensible, inteligent people living here in the "Bible Belt".
OOO sounds good i should check that out pz haha catholics yeah im so suprised how easily people forget that hes a jew.LOl hence the name king of the jews lol its so funny how easily people can be tricked by words. They call science bad names but if it wasn't for science they wouldn't have even live as long as they have.during biblical times they knew life spans were barley 40 and knowledge of the world was limited.Yet they take advice from 2000 years ago when theres a true way to learn about the world.Aww they took it off youtube i have to check it out i was checking out that new movie religlous it looks funny all atheist have to go see it:)..... so whats your story what was your path to enlightenment lol
yeah how can they regress human process and negate everything people fought for.The scariest part for me was when she told her kid that 0.6 degree change is nothing and that global warming is fake. The power she had over those kids was indeed scary i have never seen brain washing like that since project paper clip and they weren't even using drugs like the government. She thinks they know she should know kids minds are easy to control and prey on.So whos your favorite out spoken atheist debater hmmm
Yeah your sure right about that did you see jesus camp yet if you didnt check it out these kids i feel sorry for them but its a must see for reals tell me what you think i wish people could just simply not think evolution is so difficult its acutally pretty basic ha but that might take 4 ever lol
You can say that again lol most people i work with would be infuriated if i even say anything about use evolving. And ha may there god strike me down if i mention the word ape lol. Then if i ask them how we got here then they say god, then i ask how do you know that ""umm the bible"Then i say wheres the proof ""uMM the bible" lol nice 2 meet you
Honestly, one of them could "rift" all she wants, and neither I nor my wife would be that upset. The other one is a big wimp. She's not likely to make a stink over it. She'll just pray harder. She's good at compartmentalizing that way.
It is true that many people take the path of religion to lead them out of destructive life styles.
It is also true that people can do the same thing without a reliance on faith (you just don't hear about it as much).
You sound like a very nice you…
I thought it was utterly brilliant that he said Abbot's offer of a billion dollars for Hobart hospital was immoral!
His refusal of such a ridiculous bribe iis one of the first moral acts I've ever seen from a politician. Clearly the man will have a…
I've seen posts about the 50 commandments of jeebus put out by xtians that cite chapter and verse and you really don't need a commentary to go along with them.
Boy it sure does kill the whole GOP/Tea Party platform.
