When I came out to my family, it wasn't anything I didn't expect. It was still kinda sad in some respects though. It seemed only months before did I buy a book on Satan, and how he worked to make us all non-believers. And to your surprise, I was on the agreeing end of this spectrum. To quote this book directly, "One of Satans greatest accomplishments, is convincing people that he doesn't exist". Ah man... I have to blush a little when I think back to my fervent agreement on that diamond. In…See More

Thanks for getting back to me, Skye.

I had a big interest in Entymology when I was a boy. I reared and observed many types of insects until I was in college. Just over 20 years ago my next door neighbour's kid found a gravid Cecropia Moth. He gave me a dozen of her egg and I reared the caterpillars to adulthood. I discovered that I still enjoyed doing this sort of thing, especially in regard to giant silk moths.

Over the next few years I acquired other giant silk moths and learned how to breed them. I even invented a special cage for introducing domestic females with wild males. It was featured in an article I wrote for News of the Lepidopterists' Society.

During the mid-1990's I was approached by a biological distributor who wanted to know if I had any cocoons for sale. This was the first time I heard that there was a market for giant silk moth specimens. Within a short time I was rearing up to 1,300 caterpillars per year and selling the cocoons to distributors and collectors. I gave up rearing them commercially several years ago when the bottom fell out of the market.

I don't collect moths, I rear and release. My specialty is giant silk moths: Antheraea polyphemus, Hyalophora cecropia and Callosamia promethea. Several years ago I used to raise them commercially, producing about 1200 specimens each summer. The cocoons were purchased by biological distributors and private collectors. I rear them just for fun now. I also rear and release Monarch Butterflies.

Please feel free to look at my bio page. I hope to meet you soon in the chat room. Several regulars, besides myself, are there most evenings.
