Boy Scout of America: Evil in more ways than one

Posted on February 2, 2009 at 4:59pm 1 Comment

"Boy Scouts councils across the country have widely logged or sold prime woodlands to turn quick profits, sometimes on lands that were bequeathed to the Boy Scouts by donors intent on preserving the lands for outdoor recreation, according to an investigation by Hearst Newspapers."

Inauguration Speech

He said "and non-believers". He said "restore science". And he listed "curiosity" among the core values. A good start.

Fraternizing with the Enemy

In the movie Serenity, the preacher Shepherd Book asks the doubter Captain Reynolds:

"Why when I talk about faith, do you always assume I'm talking about God? "

I met a pair of singers recently who pulled a bait-and-switch on me, with the result that for the first time in my life, I have some sense of the positive value of faith. They started their set with songs from their youth on the usual song topics, romance and heartbreak. By the end of the set, their songs were… Continue

Welcome to Atheist Nexus, join groups, and help and profit from the discussions.
No doctrines here, no dogma. Just good rational debate. e.g. try visiting the busy group "ORIGINS: Universe, Life, Humankind, Darwin..." for sociable discussion and good writing. Terry Meaden (Oxford)

Hi Mr. "Shoe"
In archeology I have come to specialise in the Neolithic and Bronze Ages of 'anywhere in the world', but I know most about the megalithic period in Europe. In England this means the great sites of Avebury and Stonehenge which are both quite near where I live. I have a web site about these monuments
www.stonehenge-avebury.net/megaframes. html.

If you put the one word 'Stonehenge' into google, the site appears on the first page. I am also doing Neolithic cave research in Sardinia in the summer (ditto if you google for Avebury). As for excavations, I have done a lot of Roman and Iron Age work in Oxfordshire and some Roman work in Wiltshire which means much tough and patient digging. Hands-on digging is always very exciting as you would well know. Tell me about your digging.

That's interesting. In fact, any archeological digging is interesting. It's all detective work really. i.e. evaluating what you can from the clues available. Tell me how you got on when you return from digging in Mexico this year. And thanks too for joining ORIGINS.

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 6 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Posted by Christy Stewart on May 20, 2013 at 2:17pm 6 Comments

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…

Anti-atheist post from an Orthdox Mormon

What do you think of this Facebook comment?

Nathan Young to Jason Torpy,

for once you and I can agree on something.  We should disrespect beliefs that are untenable such as the belief that there is no God.  Indeed for me to respect you Jason, I cannot respect your belief in non-belief in atheism.  Your atheism comes across as arrogrance, smugness, and self righteous.  Indeed after reading "An Open Letter to My Religious Friends" I penned one…
