Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity.
I'm black, professional and atheist. I was raised in a Christian family and went to church nearly every Sunday. I began to question at an early age, and in an effort to beat back my own doubt, I began to proselytize. It was not uncommon for me to take a bible to school or to try to convert other kids. It was ridiculous- and only forestalled the inevitable.
By the time I left for college I was fairly agnostic and didn't go to church for the better part of four years. I went even less during law school. Finally, in my late twenties, I accepted that I did not believe in a personal God. My doubt has often led to intense conflict with family members- even very close family members at that. It would be nice to make a few atheist friends, because, as you can imagine, being both black and atheist can be a challenging experience. But, I never let that bother me for long.
I love travel, reading, writing, sports and to have a good time wherever I can. I'm laid back, love to laugh and welcome new experiences. Don't hesitate to say hello.

Just read the Love blog...you know, there are lots of things one can tie to humanity through love...that is a very deep and interesting piece! Maybe you should start a thread to get different opinions about where love "is" in the mind of an atheist?? I would dig around my brain and try to come up with something for sure!
Hi Shawn! Thanks for adding me! I love this website because it's a safe haven for us all to speak our minds, and not have to debate why we don't believe in the big dude in the sky! Glad you are here, and look forward to reading your posts :)
