A right-brain basis for atheism?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Michael E Davis May 11, 2013. 15 Replies

It's considered correct for atheists to insist we have values. But the values I see us testifying to come mostly from past movements and ages. Atheism doesn't seem to  generate any new values…Continue

Why natural selection doesn't work

Posted on January 27, 2015 at 5:17pm 45 Comments

Natural selection is no mere idle fancy. Every so the logic behind it stirs a call for eugenics. Last time around evolutionists acted as sponsors and consultants for over 30 states in the USA, promoting surgical interventions to stall our species' descent into oblivion. Now "Unless we embrace genetic engineering, we will become a sickly and frail species" says Johnjoe McFadden, reader in molecular microbiology at the University of Surrey. Is natural selection so established a theory that we…

Project discourse: basic ideas

Posted on April 13, 2013 at 12:30pm 7 Comments

For an introduction to this project please see this post.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a string of ideas I aim to draw on to create discourse for thinking about ourselves as having evolved:

  1. There's nothing in the universe except:

       -  matter acted on by physics

       -  whatever's involved…

Project: Discourse for saying what it means we evolved

Posted on April 12, 2013 at 7:00pm 0 Comments

I plan to use this personal blog space to solicit feedback on a personal project. I want to develop a way of talking about evolution that's different from darwinism. Having a second way of talking about being evolved would be like, in the 19th century, having both waves and particles as ways of thinking about light. You needed both then. In a similar way I think today we need more than one way of thinking about evolution.

I ask for your indulgence. First, I ask you not to defend…

I'm an atheist, but anti-darwinist

Posted on April 10, 2013 at 10:30am 33 Comments

This blog has been more public than I expected. so I have toned down the heading to this post. Also I have deleted two posts I didn't want further responses to.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Every so often I venture out into the public sphere to see how anti-darwinism is responded to. The last time, at the science cafe, my posts were moved from "science" to "paranormal" or some such section then I was subjected to withering personal abuse. This…
