Sharon Stanley replied to LarryL's discussion When you lost your faith, did you lose any other deeply held beliefs? in the group Recovering from Religion
"I thought this was very well said. It's true. As a child I believed what I was told. I had no beliefs of my own. It took a long time before I could undo what had been done. Also, I hate to say it, but my mom felt that religion was so important.…"

"I think it is comforting to believe in an after life when people you love have passed away. I had to consciously stop those thoughts. I also started to watch my language; I don't say "Oh God!" anymore. I actually say, "Oh…"

Sharon Stanley replied to LarryL's discussion When you lost your faith, did you lose any other deeply held beliefs? in the group Recovering from Religion
"I did not change any of my deeply held "beliefs" as far as humanism and my liberal agenda is concerned. What I did have to think through is the superstition I had. For example, being raised as a reformed Jew, I had to purge the idea of the…"

Recovering from Religion

Unless you were raised by atheist parents, you probably had some recovering to do when you left religion. The purpose of RR is to provide a landing place for people when they jump from religion. Hi
Welcome to Atheist Nexus with its 8000 good friends.

A group you may like is “ORIGINS” (Origins: Universe, Life, Humans, Evolution, Religion..... ) with its 120 discussions and numerous video films.

One discussion (over 65 posts) is "Proud to be Atheist".
There's much to feel good about
because atheists and humanists hold the intellectual and moral high ground that is far removed from the pathetic superstitious god believers who grovel like slaves to a narrow-minded controlling clergy and their imaginary beings.
