Well said, Septic Sceptic!  I agree with almost everything you just said.  I would have to go one step further and put animals ahead of humans.  I just cannot stand the thought of an innocent animal writhing in pain for what…

I guess your point does make sense for now. I am a vegetarian, but not yet a vegan. As soon as I have the opportunity and the confidence, I will become a vegan though.

I'm not saying you're incorrect, but what makes humans special? You are making a dichotomy between "higher ordered" animals and "lesser"(?) animals, what is this distinction based upon? Is it the ability to…

We are animals - but we are higher ordered animals. Human lives are more worthy than animal lives. The priority for human life is always precedent to animal life. Again - I consider myself an animal rights advocate. I am simply not an extremist and…

I know. :) But they didn't survive or have the chances or surviving due to evolutionary processes. Cannibalism is against human nature.

I USED to be a vegan, but have been a vegetarian since age 16 (41 now).  I had the same dilemma, but the answer seemed/seems easy to me.  If I keep myself in the best possible health, then I won't be contributing to animal…

About Me
I am a university student studying philosophy and religion.

My main hobbies are creative writing and Judo. I'm not much good at either, but getting better.

My particular brand of atheism is closer to a more open and inclusive view; I reject hardline, confrontational, "militant atheism" as counter productive. I believe that religion could be the greatest tool we have for working towards a common goal, as long as it is guided by a compassionate progressive mindset. The only religion we need to be working against is the backwards and hateful fundamentalist movements.

Aha hello there, I see you made a thread just line mine long time ago (and probably it was quite old so it was filtered away over time which then went unnoticed by me), but I get the impression we are of a similar stance regarding the atheism/agnoticism options under your profile edit.

What I really wanted to say is that I find the opposition a little sad and most of all, a little hypocritical for at on the one hand saying that they don't want other people here, but at the same time allowing them as long they behave in a civil manner.

I for one, don't find the reasons behind that sort of thinking. While I certainly am aware of this place after all being called The Atheist Nexus, should we take it literary? I at least for one, don't find myself agreeing with this sort of more militant approach. Maybe it's because I live in such a country where actual theists barely ever seriously bother me in my everday life.

On a sidenote, this isn't the first time our views have reconciled :)

Hey handsome! If you don't put anything in your profile, then how are we to know anything about you? Don't makes us beg!
