I don't mean accusing, exactly. I'm just confused about how this tangent came up and what it implied about me. What is the phenomenon? Atheists who think they know what they're talking about when they don't? I don't think…

I don't recall accusing you of anything. If you haven't encountered the phenomenon I'm aiming at, you will, and you won't have to venture far to find it.

Does all this mean that I'm a redneck? I mean, I like to think I try to educate myself about such matters. I don't *feel* like a redneck.

Greetings, Sarah! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.

Hi Sarah in sunny Boston, I chickened out of your winter ordeals after four years in southern NH. I've been following your writing on the subject of Atheist bashing experiences. The oldest of my three twin daughters (I'll explain it all some day) is open about her lack of belief in the supernatural. She has alluded to some strong words being spoken in social studies debates but surprisingly little open bigotry. I say surprising since her high school is nestled firmly in the belly button lint immediately below the bible belt. I'll pass on a link to your work in case she has anything of interest to share with you.

From Not My God

Not My God focuses on persecution and hatred of atheists. I’m not saying that I equate anti-atheism rhetoric with segregated bathrooms under Jim Crow laws or genocides. What I am trying to say is that many people in the US hate atheists, all else being equal. I’ve heard time and time again of people saying that they didn’t believe in God– without sarcasm, without “and neither should you,”… Continue

Atheists who swing to the right

From Not My God

I don’t often hear from atheists who are politically/socially conservative. I know they’re out there, albeit probably much fewer than their more liberal counterparts. I’ve heard at least one atheist say that he’s a truck driver, voted for Bush twice, etc., and no one would guess that he’s an atheist. True, I wouldn’t have.

I’m a liberal myself, although it does disconcert me to a… Continue

It’s no secret that I have big love for the HBO series Big Love, which I discussed in my posts about Mormonism. The opening credits end with Bill, the husband, meeting… Continue
