"A couple of other notes. Don't get me wrong--I am still interested in what's going on in the world of astronomy. I just don't keep up on the latest like I did when I was teaching the subject. In past years, I would watch the Perseid…"
"Ruth, this article, White dwarfs crashing into neutron stars explain loneliest supernovae, offers a very nice example of what happens in our sky, far beyond our ability to see. There is so much activity, and interesting new discoveries, it is…"
"If you like astronomy pix you'll like NASA's pic of the day at:
In 1999 I started using it as desktop background. In my spare time I looked at the pix since their start in June 1995. (I'm not compulsive.)
"Randall, there's lots of interesting new astronomy, just not the kind we see with personal telescopes.
I didn't even know that there were "lonely" supernova events in deep space, far from galaxies, when I woke up today.

It has some truth to it. When presiding I usually act with what looks like confidence; I know that with short notice I may have to reverse a…"
I was born in Ontario and spent 7 years as a post-doc in central Florida, so I know what you mean about the deep south. I have also been atheist since about age 6 - old enough to think critically. Glad to hear you made it back to Canada. I have tried a few times, but I pretty much stuck in Kansas. Fully tenured now, so its hard to give up the job security. Best of luck with your grad program.
Hi Sara! As well as hosting the Aussie/Kiwi group here on Nexus. I'm also the media and communications consultant for the forthcoming "Rise of Atheism" Global Atheist Convention to be held in Melbourne in March 2010. The Convention is being organized jointly by Atheist Alliance International and the Atheist Foundation of Australia.
I wonder if you could let your members know that tickets for the convention are now available online at the Convention website. We are expecting nearly 3,000 delegates, so this convention is going to be huge.
Confirmed speakers include: Richard Dawkins, AC Grayling, PZ Myers, Dan Barker, Peter Singer, Taslima Nasrin and many more.
Anything you can do to help us get the word out would be greatly appreciated.
