WTF is wrong with the VA legislature. electorate?
Everybody who isn't a right wing religious wacko should vote.
The Oklahoma personhood bill is intentional humor.

Have fun with the idea of VA adopting the determined ignorance of fundamentalist xianity, but someone will do the arithmetic and realize that if the bill becomes law the state will go broke.
Let's have a contest: ask people to describe the…
Well, I have a degree in Biology (from U. Texas), and there's no requirement to take a class on Evolution (though I did, cuz I'm nerdy like that). It is covered some in any general biology class (for freshmen), so I don't see how…

with all the wacky bills being proposed around the US, this one somehow slipped past me:
— A bill in Virginia would make it illegal for state colleges to require a class that conflicts with a student’s religious views. Critics say…
I'm an aspiring paleontologist -- fell in love with dinosaurs when I was a kid, but now I'm nuts about Ediacaran biota.
I just moved back to Canada for grad school at Queen's University after seven years trapped in the American Deep South. Not a happy place for an atheist. If anything, it helped firm up my conviction that religious people are nuts!
I've been an atheist since the first time I confronted my parents about the implausibility of Santa Claus when I was six.

I was born in Ontario and spent 7 years as a post-doc in central Florida, so I know what you mean about the deep south. I have also been atheist since about age 6 - old enough to think critically. Glad to hear you made it back to Canada. I have tried a few times, but I pretty much stuck in Kansas. Fully tenured now, so its hard to give up the job security. Best of luck with your grad program.

Glad to find someone who is an atheist who knows a lot about dinosaurs. I'm considering to create something that requires a deep understanding of dinosaurs.
Hi Sara! As well as hosting the Aussie/Kiwi group here on Nexus. I'm also the media and communications consultant for the forthcoming "Rise of Atheism" Global Atheist Convention to be held in Melbourne in March 2010. The Convention is being organized jointly by Atheist Alliance International and the Atheist Foundation of Australia.
I wonder if you could let your members know that tickets for the convention are now available online at the Convention website. We are expecting nearly 3,000 delegates, so this convention is going to be huge.
Confirmed speakers include: Richard Dawkins, AC Grayling, PZ Myers, Dan Barker, Peter Singer, Taslima Nasrin and many more.
Anything you can do to help us get the word out would be greatly appreciated.
Hey, the Atheists who love science group is my favorite! Sorry you are stuck in south Alabama. At least you can sneak off to New Orleans once in a while. It smells like vomit but it's fun!
